If you're getting a 5.0-6.0 on your school's weighted scale and ranked in the top few of your class, what does your GPA translate to on an unweighted scale? I'd like to understand what kind of UW GPA in AP/IB/honors classes equates to a top weighted GPA.

It depends on the school. At my school, an AP class is 5.0, honors is 4.5, and regular/elective is 4.0. At my friend's school an AP class is 6.0, honors is 5.0, and regular/elective is 4.0. I'm sure there are at least 5 ways of doing it. In this scenario, her 5.3, my 4.4, and your 3.9 might all be equivalent, depending on what classes we took.

Side note: If you look through chances threads, most people list their weighted AND unweighted scores. The unweighted would be the equivalent to your school's system.

haha good question. I'm finishing up my junior year ranked 1/~650 with a W 6.44 GPA lol. At my school, you get an added .08 to your UW GPA for every honors class and .16 for every AP class. Last year there was a girl who graduated with a W GPA of 8.08....needless to say, it gets a little out of hand sometimes. This system seems so strange now that I've read about GPA formulas elsewhere, which make a lot more sense.

Oh and my UW is a 4.0 =D

I have almost a 5.0. :)

However, UW using the 4.0 scale... I have between a 3.98-4.0

UW using my school's scale is still crazy... I have like a 3.94 UW using my school's scale.
