To be considered as a “good” candidate for PLME,
do you need to have medical research experience?

Or is it okay if you don’t have any advanced research experience but showed your passion in medicine in a different way, like volunteering at a local hospital?

What kind of extracurricular activities would make you a strong candidate for PLME (when considering that you have good GPA and standardized scores)?

Medical research can be a plus, but hospital volunteering is good as well. As long as you show a genuine interest in pursuing medicine, you have as good of a chance as all the other passionate pre-meds applying for the program. Other EC’s include shadowing, medical groups and organizations, etc.

I’ve asked this question to Brown admission officers and they say, you don’t NEED it…but the people they let in pretty much have incredible medical experience that shows that they are set on med school.

I’ve done both shadowing a surgeon for 14 weeks, wrote my common app essay about it, and I’m working in a Psychiatry/Neuroscience lab this semester and summer. I’d like to think that’s enough medical EC’s for a high school kid.

How intense is PLME on grades and stats? I’ve been rejected from both HPME and BU’s Med Program (I’m assuming since I got no interview…), so I’m not expecting to get into Brown (or PLME) but I’m hoping.

Same question for me. Everything I’ve heard about these direct medprograms is that you have to show a passion for medicine.
How do I show this? Come to the interview, I honestly don’t know how I can put into words why I want to pursue medicine.
I know that’s a crappy answr, but I really don’t know how. Tips? Things to think about?
