For-Profit schools considered a real college?

I've been looking up schools like The Art Institute, Antonelli Institute, and Musicians Institute here on the [Colleges] link on the left of your screen. Those schools or any other for-profit schools besides like SVA is listed. Why is that?

(I don't have any idea on this, that's why I'm asking)

Many for-profit art schools are overpriced. WAY overpriced. With less-than-impressive faculty/standards. They lure people in.

SVA is an exception to this rule (they have a lot of street cred as far as I can see, excellent faculty, student work, higher admission standards, etc). SVA is expensive, but not out of line with what you’d pay to go to a private non-profit art school in NYC.

I would avoid schools like Antonelli, etc, without researching the particular school VERY carefully and comparing to lower-cost options! There may be some good ones out there but many are known as diploma mills w/ low standards. That’s not to say a motivated student can’t get anything out of a school like that. But for most, there are much better and cheaper options!

What are you interested in studying?

I made a thread - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1377971-question-about-university-phoenix-itt-tech-art-institutes.html</a>
if you want to read it why I was curious about it.

I want to go into interior design, school like Pratt that also have good academic study there.
