For reasonabledad - Admitted incoming class stats for Virginia Tech

Just saw some new information about the statistics of the incoming freshman class at Virginia Tech. I remember you (and maybe other parents out there) were looking earlier.........Here's the link, hope it works!

News Story | Virginia Tech News | Virginia Tech

Forgot to add one more link that gives a bit more interesting information:

Freshman Snapshot | Undergraduate Admissions | Virginia Tech

By highlighting the admitted rather than enrolled stats they make it look better than it likely is.

True, back in the day I know many admitted VA tech students chose UVA instead.

barrons, why the negativity? It is solely an article talking about students' statistics from the incoming (and soon to be enrolled) class.

I'll admit I am biased because I have child heading there this fall, but I think VT is a tremendous school with a lot of very bright and engaging kids. (Those statistics are pretty impressive to me, but what do I know)

Honestly, the best part about VT isn't measured with academic statistics of the students anyway; it is the Hokie spirit that they begin to develop when they become students there and the lifelong pride they have in that school. You feel it when you walk on campus; at least we did.

Oh, and lfecollegeguy, today there still are kids who get into both and choose UVA over VT, but also many more today who do just the opposite.
It all depends on what they want.

Impressive. Since the deposits have been sent, I would assume most are attending. Even if some of those kids don't show, the numbers indicate that there has been surge in interest.

barrons,

I think those numbers are the enrolled numbers.

The article says, "Freshmen accepting the offer of admission earned an average high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.80 (with a middle 50 percent of 3.58-4.00), up from 3.77 last year. The average combined math and critical reading SAT score was 1208, up from last year’s 1205. Average grades and scores for students who were offered admission were: 3.86 GPA (middle 50 percent 3.62-4.08) and a combined critical reading and math SAT score of 1238 (middle 50 percent of 1150-1320)."

Unless I am misinterpreting the sentence, doesn't "freshman accepting the offer of admission" mean people who have said yes they're going to vatech?

Right, jags. Those are very impressive GPA figures. The top graduate in the private academy in our town in Georgia is going to VT (not Georgia Tech) next year.

I was referring to these numbers which I found can be misleading. It was from the second link. Many don't realize the distinction when they highlight the admitted rather than enrolled on their websites. Also using a grading scale that goes beyond 4.0 is misleading as most schools quote that on a 4.0 scale as does US News.

"Average GPA & SAT of Students Offered Admission

Average High School GPA: 3.86
Middle 50% GPA: 3.62–4.08
Average SAT Reasoning Test score (critical reading + math): 1,238
Middle 50% SAT Reasoning Test score: 1,150–1,320"

KandKsmom ~ Thank you; this is what I was looking for. The school looks impressive to me!

Can't this be PM'd?
