My question is very simple. Many schools require at least one recommendation from a mathematics teacher. I took AP Comp Sci junior year and I want to use that teacher for a recommendation. My prospective major will most likely be econ and I'd rather get a rec from her than from my pre-calc, stats, and calc teachers. Would I be safe using this course to fulfill the math requirement?

Maybe not impossible, but not safe either. You could contact the schools to ask them and I guess that then you could be safe.

its considered math at my school

I doubt that AP Java will be considered as Math. You better check with the Admission Office.

what??? i've never heard of anything like this?? what schools neeed recs from math teachers???

uh... i think most schools require one rec from a math/sci teacher and one from humanities/english/social sciences teacher. not specifically math...

MIT,Caltech

I think caltech wants a math rec

How the heck could java count as math? I fail to see the connection

Computer Science is a math. I think that's pretty much agreed upon. I see no problem with a CompSci teacher fulfilling a math slot.

The best idea is to contact the specific school and ask.
