Thanks Elephant! I got corrected twice on another thread fir saying that only HYS were SCEA so I assumed I was wrong. My fault for not checking myself and then passing on the missinformation.

Does John Hopkins have a really good International Relations program? It's strange since JHU has always been famous for its medical science studies. Just curious...

Yeah, JHU has a very well known international relations program.

School ended yesterday for me, and graduation was today.

I'M FINALLY A SENIOR!!

Seniors007 - Licensed to Chill! (or thrill)

w007!

Just advice for you seniors from someone who just did the whole thing--- senior year is NOT an easy year! Do not get rdy to party-- the year is probably amongst the hardest you will have in high school. Well until the last month of school, where you absolutely stop caring and I mean abso-d.amn-lutely. But that month is aeons away!! Get ready, that's all I have to say.

Wow...we've been out for almost 3 weeks already. =p

So what have you guys been up to?

I'm doing a business program over the summer (& studying), ACT in Sep, and SAT Subjects in October.

what business program?

bump....

A little update...I got my Subject test scores back, I scored 640 on both of them (I was surprised,too...maybe it's a scoring error, because it's kind of weird I got the same exact score on both, but it's not too bad a score). I'm not retaking, because I'm only going to send those scores to one school. I am going to prepare for the ACT in Sept. instead.

thesiren, which subject tests did you take?

I'm sorry I didn't post about Brown earlier; I've been insanely busy with work and community service (and mostly lazy in between). I was only there for the bare minimum campus tour and info session, so I can't really give an in-depth report, but here are some impressions anyway.

It's an urban campus, but compared to some other urban schools I've seen it's still pretty cohesive. There were at least two or three large green spaces where students were sitting on the grass, mostly alone or in pairs, reading, tanning, or socializing. I went during spring break so there weren't that many people there, but the ones I saw looked like typical college students, in jeans and t-shirt type attire. The architecture wasn't ostentatious like at some other Ivies (e.g. Yale) but it's definitely an attractive campus, for the most part.

Academically, they obviously emphasized the open curriculum. On one hand, it gives students an incredible amount of flexibility, which is great, but on the other hand, it seems like you need to be extremely self-directed and self-motivated to really benefit from it, which I guess isn't for everyone. The Pass/No Credit option gives you the freedom to explore and take courses outside of your comfort zone without worrying about how it'll impact your GPA, which is very nice. Intellectual curiosity is definitely rewarded at Brown; that was probably the aspect that impressed me most during my visit.

I actually have to leave, but let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know and I'll try my best to answer. I haven't decided for sure whether I'm applying yet, but I'm definitely leaning in that general direction.

On a totally unrelated note, I'm still in shock over my Math 2 score: 700!!! I was seriously expecting low 600's. Chemistry (650) and Biology-M (680) were okay, but I know I could do better if I retook because I really half-assed them last time and didn't even bother to study. I have good scores in French (800) and literature (750), though, so I don't know if retaking the sciences would be overkill... it just really bothers me that I didn't put in my best effort.

Wow, vacations are really flying by, I'm already on my third week of vacs. I just wanna get back to my country ( I've been in argentina and peru the last weeks), I seriously need to hit the gym and study guitar ( should've borught it with me but my mom flipped out when I even suggested it).
On the same unrelated note as cameliasinesis: Subject tests are the devil!!! haha I did bio E 680, (self studied, I'm gonna restudy for a retake in october), math IIc 730(...disappointed considering I want to do a major in math and econ) and english lit730 ( definitely safistified..I had tons of poems in mine, and considering I hate/suck at analyzing poems this was a huge win for me.

Good job guys, on those hard-earned SAT scores!
I just got mine back a few days ago, and here they are:
World History: 720 (should I retake it?)
Math IC: 690 (DEFINITE retake in november)
My third SAT will probably be US History. Has anyone done it already? How was it? easy, hard, tedious?

Also, I am currently taking a Political philosophy course at our local public university (along with a midterm in one week. Yeah, exciting holiday...)

Hmm...after hearing Brown, it sounds like an interesting place. Does anyone know anything about its political science/history/international relations program? Is it a more "liberal arts/pre-law oriented institution" or a more technical/science one?

For those of you who are interested in Princeton, I've recently found an excerpt of its president Shirley Tilgman's commencement speech (and I think it contains some really useful things one should know about princeton before applying... some key values/ideals):

Hope this helps, and let's more about some other colleges:)

Hm, question.

For the "supplemental" parts for the individual colleges, we just send this in by paper application, right? And then use the commonapp online (if we're doing it online?) They still recieve it all and put it in a single file?

Also... TWO MONTHS UNTIL THE END! (or the beginning?) Enjoy it will you can '07ers, cause it's gonna be here before we know it ;)

I just got back from a whirlwind of tours (saw 7 colleges in 3 day, yupyup) and people are already doing interviews and such... eh, I feel like I'm way behind schedule yet it's only July!

Thanks for the link, Jimmy; that was interesting. This part bothered me, though:
We must find a bridge over the gaping divide that has opened in the public discourse between religion and science. Scientists must learn to speak about the Big Bang or Darwin's theory of evolution without appearing to demean the deeply held religious beliefs of others, just as those of faith must be prepared to open their minds to the nature of scientific evidence and what it tells us about the natural world.
If I proclaim a deeply held belief in pink unicorns, is everyone else now obligated to tiptoe around the issue of, you know, there being no rational evidence in favor of pink unicorns in order to show me respect? There's no such thing as "discourse between religion and science", and there certainly shouldn't be a bridge between them, because there is no relationship between them! I'm not going to question people's right to believe whatever the hell they choose, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with science.

Sorry about the mini-rant, I don't want to start a debate, it's just something that struck me.

As for Brown, I don't know anything about the fields you mentioned, but there didn't seem to be an overwhelming focus on either the humanities or the sciences. I think Brown's reputation has traditionally been stronger in the humanities, but our tour guide was a chemistry major, and he seemed really happy with the sciences as well (and yes, there are research opportunities for those who seek them out). It didn't strike me as a particularly preprofessional sort of place, but I can't say for sure.

cameliasinensis...I took the Literature and World History Subject Tests. Also, thank you for describing your perception about Brown!!

Don't worry precocious, July is def not late, hell I did all my apps in December, though I know that was late, but hmmm. you're def light years ahead of many other applicants

I think if you are using the online common app, you'd have to send your supplemental forms TOGETHER along with your main application, right?

hmmm, i don't exactly how supplements go, but since u can't exactly [though i hear they're working on it] do teacher recs, and transcripts and all of that stuff online, i don't see why you wouldn't be able to do ur supplement by mail though it would most def be better if you did by internet if the option is available

I feel really stupid for asking this, but I've done searches on CC and looked at some colleges website, but I still can't find answers. Can someone break it down, step by step to me, on how to submit applications online, and on writing/doing the essays and applications online (if it's not common app.)?? Also, who do we exactly send it to?? I looked around individual college's website and they had no info. about that, and did not provide a specific email adress to send the apps. Maybe they are still updating the websites, but I would like to know. Thanks in advance.

go to www.commonapp.org and register a new account first. After you do that, there will be more thorough info provided for your own account.

I'm so excited!
