For smart students with low SATs

Hi everyone!!! I'm kate and i have a 3.7 weighted GPA and thats kinda good but i have a 1420 SAT i was just wanting to start a thread for people could post and find out how to study, what to study, and colleges that are available to students like us, smart in the classroom, but are terrible at standardized tests(:

Post away!! Lol

PS i'm taking them again in sept or oct i don't even know if i want to.

Inflated grades? I’m serious, if you have like straight As in a classroom, this means you’re doing everything right. Such as studying for tests, taking notes, etc.

People I know with straight A and B got like 2100s… Without studying.

So either inflated grades or easy class/teacher.

This is one of the reasons college look at SAT. They want to make sure kids don’t just get easy As and make it.

Consider taking the ACT instead. The two tests are pretty different…and you should do a practice ACT before taking the real deal if you decide to go this way, but 1420 is really not in line with your grades and a jump of 400+ points is not real likely between tests.

Do you think it’s possible you got out of synch between the questions and the answer sheet (e. g. skipped a line of answers and kept bubbling in the line below the line that corresponded with the questions)? Maybe you could take a practice SAT and see how your score on that compares with what you got on the real thing; if you improve A LOT then go ahead and take the SAT again.

^lol. a 3.7 WEIGHTED is not good. I have a horrible 3.9 weighted, but 2130 SAT.

Definitely try the ACT, especially if you’re more math/science oriented. I had a 3.7 unweighted in a very competitive high school and I only got a 1900 on the SAT but a 31 on the ACT (equivalent to a 2100 SAT). It’s not like I had a bad SAT sitting or anything, either, I consistently scored in that range. Whereas on the ACT I consistently scored 30+. I believe the reason is because I’m good at grammar but not reading, so SAT W and ACT E were easy, while SAT CR and ACT R were hard. Thats 33% of the SAT I had issues with while only 25% of the ACT gave me issues.

^^ it’s possible to be smart but make poor grades.

but maybe that’s like an ugly person saying “it’s what’s on the INSIDE that counts!! <3”

^^^That was kind of harsh. . .

^ It’s CC, did you expect different?

This is like 4chan v2

^Without inappropriate content, and no extreme ■■■■■■■■. Also people here are nerd to the extreme and probably have no life.

I am semi-describing myself :(

^ on a totally unrelated note, why did my thread get deleted? :frowning: sob

You guys are so Judgemental.

A low GPA and Low sat score does not mean you are dumb.

Nobody here knows what you went through. There are so many factors

Didn’t know the format of the SAT ( This helps a lot because my friend thought the SAT was testing the exact way the school did. After he learned it was a critical thinking test he adjusted his thinking to the right style and made a 2250)

Didn’t pay attention in school. If you never paid attention or was lazy it doesn’t mean you are dumb. I know a lot of people say “I’m smart, I’m just lazy.” but for some this is true.

Testing does not determine how intelligent you are. If this was so then the I.Q test would determine your intelligence and the geniuses (Like Richard Feynman) with low I.Q’s would be dumb according to said test.

And besides, if a high sat score means that you are intelligent, then every dope who studies for a year straight and nails a 2300+ could be labeled as a genius.

@BananaSoup

The inside IS what counts.
Would YOU date a sexy woman who had a bad personality? I would sure hope not.
Sure looks are nice, but a bad personality can bring down even Aphrodite herself. If looks were that important then every single senior citizen couple would not be married anymore.

And since the inside can do such a thing, it is indeed what counts. And besides, ugly is subjective. If everybody saw beauty the same way art would not exist.

Easy high school, the test score tells you the truth. Welcome to reality.

@ Popeye

How does a 3.7 WEIGHTED dictate an easy High school?

Now if she had a 4.0 unweighted with a low SAT then yes.

My GPA is 4.5
I have six 5’s on AP exams, one 4, but only 1970 on SAT I.
So, am I dumb?
No, I don’t like SAT.
I can never finish that stupid SAT on time.

I have a 4.0 UW GPA.

However, I had a 162 on my PSAT (Freshman year) which was still the highest PSAT in my school, but not high in comparison to College Confidential.

I will have to study my next 2 years to get a 2200+ on the SAT though. I think I improved alot.

^^
1970 is roughly 92nd percentile and still a strong score.

162 PSAT for a freshman is not bad either, especially without any studying.

uhhhhhhhh madogmgd pretty much explains why kids who say “OMG LESS THAN A 4.0 GPA YOU SUCK” need to shut up. That’s cool, your GPA and SAT scores are high, that doesn’t necessarily mean **** when you’re on your own in the real world

Not to mention I got a 2340 on the SAT (this will be one of the only times I will even mention this score, I’m not a pompous ass) and I consider myself not NEARLY as smart as people think I am. Standardized testing is a method for collegeboard to make money. How the **** does getting perfect scores in basic math, reading passages, and fixing grammar mistakes even matter? Few jobs primarily focus solely on Algebra II and Geometry as their mathematical way to calculate solutions, no one is successful for knowing what authors are inferring to (unless you have a simple simple simple job) and most people in America don’t even use grammar correctly. Cool, I answered almost all the questions right. I still struggle with driving, managing what I have, and other basics that are the real fundamentals to the world.

CC doesn’t embrace my inner nerd, now it sometimes makes me get angry at the kids who laugh at others who have a lower GPA, weighted or unweighted. Since when did a 3.7 weighted mean the OP’d have no chance of getting that $$$ or success? Or that it’s even a BAD GPA? Seriously? These kids might be smart but they need to really grow up before life smacks them up.

^ Exactly

Two students, both straight A’S, one of them cheated their way to the top, how do you tell? One word, SAT.

Simple as that.
