For some, college not worth the debt

"With the hefty price tag on colleges only rising, prospective students should evaluate whether or not higher education is worth the student loan debt." ...

For some, college not worth the debt: Column

I did not think that article directly addressed the title. Clearly, some colleges are not worth some of the debt for some students. Replace “some” with “all”, and it’s not the case any more. Few statements withstand the test of “all”.

To take out large loan amounts as some students do and are contemplating doing is clearly a foolish financial move much of the time. For most students, local, state, part time options are a far better way to go. But in some cases, borrowing is worth while. I am much more inclined to support it for those students who have done well at local schools, grown out of those resources and need to go away and have to borrow to get further education. For many 18 year olds who just want to get out of the house and join the amusement park that a sleep away college can be, that’s a whole other story.
