I thought it might be nice to “connect” with others who will be going to CCM in the FALL. Anyone out there???

My S will be entering CCM as a Dramatic Performance Major. Unfortunately, he was not able to attend the CCM orientation this summer, as he was performing at the time. While he has been talking to others in the program on Facebook, we (his parents) were not able to meet other parents as we had hoped.

So, how was the orientation? Did the students get their class schedules? I am particularly interested in whether they need to purchase books before the start of classes, and how that should be accomplished. Any other news from the orientation program? Things we should be aware of? Any help would be appreciated!

letsfigureitout: Orientation was wonderful and very well organized. Yes, they did get their schedules, but there is a time during the Fall orientation that those who could not attend in the summer can fill out their schedules. You will receive the Fall orientation info at the beginning of August. My S is an MT major and already has his info, but I think his is the only program that has sent theirs out. Yes, he did reserve his books online, but none of his classes have chosen textbooks. I guess we will be notified when they are posted and then after we pay for them, they will be put in his dorm room before he moves in.
The MT's move into Siddall on Wed. Sept 17. I am not sure when the drama kids move in. Most of the CCM kids will move in on Thurs Sept 18. The rest of the campus can't move in until Sat, Sept 20. That will help with the textbook purchase. The bookstore should not be too crowded if you go Thurs or Fri. There are only approx 210 CCM Freshmen this year.
The MT Students and the Drama students hung out a lot during orientation and my S thought everyone was really nice and fun. There were 11 of the 17accepted MT students who attended, so I am sure your son isn't the only one who couldn't attend.
There is a picnic in the evening Friday Sept 19 for students and parents.
Hope this helps. I think it is going to be a great year for our kids.

Thank you for all the info!

We have been very impressed with the way CCM has handled everything--so organized and very professionally.

My son plans to move into his dorm on the 17th. He was told that he would be able to register for his classes on the 18th or 19th. It is good to know about the picnic on the 19th--we'll plan our stay in Cincinnati to accomodate that!

I'm sure we'll meet in September! If you think of anything else, let me know--you can post, PM, or e-mail me! Thanks again.

I am sure I will think of things as the days go on, but for now the only thing you may want to be aware of is the change from Quarters to Semesters. We were told that it has not been voted on yet, but according to a poster here on CC, they are going ahead with it and it will affect our kids their senior year. My S did say that Mr. Berg talked to them about this and said it will be a mess, but that they are committed to still graduating the kids in 4 years even with the switch.

Oh! Boo Hoo! I didn't know about the picnic and already booked my flight home after move in day! Oh well. I understand that Delta needs the money for the ticket change fee.

Well, I hope my info is correct about the picnic being for parents as well as students. My son just received an update on fall orientation for the MT students and it does not say the picnic is for parents. It just says students. But Dean Hillner told us in our orientation meeting that the picnic is for parents as well. Does anyone have any more info about this? Thanks.

I'll wait to hear from someone before I change our tickets.

That is a good idea. Please post when you find out.

We haven't gotten anything from CCM for a while, and we're anxiously waiting for fall orientation info. . .

Have you guys received a bill for tuition or for room and board yet? How did it come, if you have--by snail mail or by e-mail? I'm looking out for that one, too!

We were told at orientation that fall orientation info would be mailed out the first part of August. The only reason we have ours is that Aubrey Berg sends out his own schedule for the MT students. We have not received any bills yet, but they will be posted on the "onestop" sight. The website is onestop.uc.edu There is no "paper" anything sent out or at least that is what we were told at orientation.

Good to know! Thanks, llong39!

letsfigureitout
I know in my college at UC (not CCM) I got to speak at 4 freshman oreintations and during these they make clear to students that bills are no longer 'sent'. The students need to enter via the one-stop location and there is a site for billing. There is a section that says view/pay bill. I don't know if your D or S has his/her ID number or has used the onestep yet, I know for our college this is some of what the student advisors walk the students through. I see llong says the same thing. YOu cannot acces the site as a parent unless your student opens up the create parent/payor login.

The orientation schedule is available at the CCM website. The picnic on Friday is listed for Students and Parents.

Great! See you all there!

Now I definitely have to change our flights. I called the school and we are invited to the picnic and it sounds like too much fun!

So are y'all leaving Cincinnati on Saturday or Sunday?

Saturday. I think my S will be ready for us to leave by then!

At the moment, we're planning to arrive on the 17th. . .What are your ARRIVAL plans?

Well, we were going to arrive on Sunday and explore Cincinnati for a few days before moving in. But since we want to stay longer on the end and have to change our tickets anyway, we will probably arrive on Tuesday for a Wednesday move in.

We will be arriving on Wed morning. We only have a 3 hour drive. After move in, my husband will return home and I will visit my parents until Friday when we all come back for the picnic. I agree that it sounds like fun and we can't wait to meet everyone.

OK CCM parents. . .I'm thinking that after we get our son moved in on Wednesday we'll be in his way until the picnic on Friday evening. So. . .I'm wondering if anyone is interested in meeting on Thursday evening for dinner and a show? Grey Gardens is at the Ensemble Theatre. We should get tickets in advance, so some planning is in order. We're up for that or anything else. Perhaps someone knows of a great place to eat?
