For students currently there

Hi BC is one of the schools on my long list of schools I will be applying to, already visited and was pretty impressed. Size and campus were nice and apporpriate for what I am looking for. How do you rate the professors? What are BC’S strengths? Where else did you apply? How is student life? workload? My cousin transferred from BC two years ago and goes to Stonehill in Easton and just didn’t like it for a variety of reasons, but that left a bad taste in my mouth because of her experiences, but have met many others who love it and when I visited I was really impressed. Any comments on the good and bad, which of course all schools have? Thanks.

What were the reasons why your cousin left BC?

heyyyyyy...surprised i'm actually replying to this. i should be studying for my bio exam. o_O;;

ok. for starters, i had a long list of schools last year too...i'm actually a frosh right now. I applied to like 10 school, mostly ivies and georgetown, bc, ucla, and university of md college park. i got into ucla, bc, umcp, and waitlisted at georgetown. ehhhhhhhh...i was semi disappointed, not really tho. i mean, ives are pretty difficult. the schools i got into weren't bad either. i liked all of them, therefore, i didn't really care where i went. my mom actually decided BC for me. i have to say, i love my mother so much for her decision. not even 2 months into school and i can positively say i love it here. the people, the campus, the atmosphere.

the professors are good. i mean, it's like any other college, some are excellent, some are good, some are boring, some are awful...etc. you just have to pick well and then deal with it. the workload is decent. it isn't too bad. as long as you stay on top of readings, college is pretty manageable.

i hope this helps. i guess it depends on what you want in a college tho. i'm pretty adaptable. i'm sure i would've liked any of the college i got into. what to remember is, every experience is what you make of it. once you go into a situation with a positive attitude and make it fun for yourself, you'll love it! nothing comes to you, you go out for it...just like a party! ahahahahaa...it doesn't matter if the party sucks, as long as you and your friends make it fun for yourself! ;)

I am a freshman there now. Most of my professors are pretty good and very knowledgable and want to teach you. The student life is great. The football atmosphere during games is amazing and it is pretty easy to meet people. Depending on the classes you take the workload may vary. I love BC tho, it's a great school.

I'm also a current freshman... I also applied to WashU-St. Louis, Southern Cal, and Notre Dame and was accepted to all of them, but I chose BC. The school itself is amazing... I have one lecture class right now of 100 people, but my four other classes have 30, 30, 15, and 10 people in them. Professors are great and very easily accessible. The social life is great, you have the city of Boston at your doorstep, and sports were also a huge draw for me.

I'm a freshman at BC this year. I liked it a lot when I first came here but now I'm not enjoying it as much. I do not like any of my classes and I feel like I learned more in AP classes in high school than in the same classes that I'm currently taking (history, physics, etc.). A lot of people are happy with their classes, however, so maybe i just have a bad schedule? The are on-campus activities but it feels really hard to get involved with stuff. There aren't really any activities going on on the weekends (or at least stuff that I know about) so most students just party. The party scene is extremely exclusive (especially against freshman guys), so don't come here expecting to be able to find/go to parties really easily unless you get in with a group of partying/connected people. BC's location is amazing because of how close it is to Boston but how it is in a beautiful suburban area. The campus is beautiful too, but the chuch-looking buildings can get old after a while... Also, sports are HUGE here so if you're not a sports fan than you'll probably feel odd during game days. Although I sound really negative, almost everyone sincerely loves it here; you just have to be a certain type of person to like it here. So if you are that type of person (private catholic prep school, wealthy, partier, extremely social, etc...) then you'll probably love it here.

Bluegraybrown, sorry to hear things are a little rough right now. But you've only been there 2 months. I was a public school guy raised in the Mid-west, so it took me a while to feel comfortable at BC a couple decades ago. My suggestion is to join some sort of club--that seemed to be where people were most likely to meet kindred spirits.

xcjimmy, do you have any suggestions for bluegraybrown?

heyy i heard a lot about BC being a school of mostly rich white preps, true enough?? myth?

I'm sorry, that's Tufts.

What is BC's student population really like?

I'm a sophomore at BC now, so I'll try and give you my impression of the school. I'll try and be as unbiased as I can be:

Academics: I personally think the academics are great. Almost all of my professors have been fairly excellent, with a few exceptions, which is to be expected at any school in the country. One piece of advice I'd give is to really research professors who are good. UGBC.org has a professor rating system for BC professors and I find that the highly rated professors are worth seeking out and taking. Try to stay away from the poorly rated professors for obvious reasons. There are a ton of speakers and events that come to campus, so many in fact, that you'll find yourself not being able to go to certain things that you want to go to simply because of lack of time.

Location/Campus: Great location in my opinion. Its about 20-30 minutes from downtown Boston, with three T lines within 5 minutes of campus (B,C,D). The campus itself is very nice with the gothic architecture and such. It shouldn't be an important factor in your choice but it is nice to be able to stroll around campus and enjoy the buildings.

Sports: Sports are huge at BC. Football, Basketball, and Hockey are all highly attended events, especially football. If you are a sports fan you'll be in heaven pretty much. We always have a number of teams in the Top 25 in the country. Football game days are some of the most exciting and fun days you will experience at BC. The atmosphere is simply electric. Basketball and hockey aren't quite as big but can be equally exciting. Basketball plays 4 of the last 6 National champions at Conte Forum this year and in Hockey the BC-BU game is always electric.

Social: My only gripe with the school is that the party scene, if you're into it, is somewhat exclusive. Not to say you won't be able to party, you always will, but underclassmen guys especially will have trouble getting into the larger, typical college parties. I've been able to cope nonetheless and have had more than my fair share of awesome weekends. I find that the stereotype of white rich preps is overblown. There are jerks here, as there will be at any school, but I've found them to be greatly in the minority. Speaking as a male, the girls here are great. There are a lot of very attractice women if that's important to you.

So that's my assesment of BC as a whole, in my experience. Hope it was helpful.

attractive boys too i hope? hahaa also, are the chinatown buses to new york close by campus?

pre 1321: You still can get into a lot of parties right? Which parties are you speaking of that you can be excluded from?
