What should I be bringing to wear? Really superficial question, I know, but just wondering, what do most students wear? Long or short winter coat? Uggs, boots...? Any help would be appreciated.

Long coat, with down and hood. Forget about Uggs, they are warm, but not waterproof. Sorel type boots would be better.
Long underwear would be good, as well as insulated gloves or mittens.

I’m actually really interested in this discussion too. It might go into the teens twice a year where I am.

Thanks! I’m thinking of buying Uggs simply for warmth purposes but definitely need something else for the snow…thanks for the Sorel pointer!

Anyone else?

I’d say uggs, but definitely waterproof them. I waterproofed mine and they held up really really well the whole winter. I’m also probably bringing some fur coats, they’re really warm (and inherited, so I don’t feel bad). The longer the coat, the better. Wooly hat. Wooly hat lined with fleece is preferable. Wooly socks, good gloves.

Generally any monosyllabic footwear is an abomination. Uggs, like Crocs, are no exception.
Spare humanity. For the same amount of money you could get a pair of boots that is built better as well as looks better.

Waterproofing is essential, especially for footwear. In Montr

The buildings like residences and campuses and shops an all are supposed to be heated, right? so it’s only like for the walk outside.

Please tell me you’re joking…

ahem… 8-)

Yeah, most if not all of the buildings in McGill (residences included) have heating systems, so I guess once you’re inside, it shouldn’t be a problem.
The problems will surface only when you’re walking to classes or back to your dorm.

I’ve heard falling hard on your butt on the snow is extremely common, especially when you’re hurrying to classes.
