Like on the book it says the range is 620-720 ... what does this mean, and if that is your range what would be a realistic score expectation.... i mean that is so broad about 100 pts.! should you average the two or what?

no no no. You count up all the wrong, then times by .25, then all the omitted. You should get a raw score, which converts to an actual score at the end of the book. Example: 4 wrong 3 omitted. 4+(4*.25)+3= 8 and then minus it.

Or you could just average your range

yeah i converted it from the back of the book like say for writing i got 42 raw that scales to 620 - 720 for MC subscore... now how can i realistically tell what my subscores going to be i mean that is such a huge range!

There is an example curve on the college board website that was quite realistic for march (but more linient in writing than march).

Umm, i always got 630-730 or 660-760 or something on the verbal. I ended up with a 760. When I did the practice tests, I always averaged the two sides of the range, which is almost surely a very conservative estimate. On the averages I'd get anywhere from 2170 to 2230, and I ended up with a 2360 on the real thing.

Well...I got 2200-2370 on the practice tests under timed conditions and everything...but got 2140 on the real test
Practice:
Math Average: 750; Max- 800 (miss none); Min- 700
Writing Average: 770; Max- 800 (miss one); Min- 740
CR Average: 720; Max- 770; Min- 650

Real SAT :(
I did much worse...BUT I AM STUDYING MY SKIN OFF FOR JUNE SAT....
Math- 710 Just stupid careless stuff :D
Writing- 770 Yay same as practice tests :)
CR- 660 :(

I think the WS was made harder for the real thing.

In the blue book, I never got more than 2 wrong on the writing multiple choice portion of the test.

On the real test, I got a 710 (70 MC/10 essay)

The College Board Pre-Test scale available on the website is not completely accurate for the Official SAT Study Guide exams (the scale inflates the scores). Here is a scale I came up with for my students, constructed from comparing diagnostic scores with actual test scores and a little guesswork, that has proven to be very accurate for predicting actual test scores. Sorry if the formatting is bad. If anyone wants this in Word format, let me know. Hope this helps. :)
