We're having our first day of classes. In my case, one class. I had analytical chem this morning--double period. I have a great teacher it seems and the class is the place to be! We have a lab on Monday to analyze the density of coke! lol, can't wait. We eat at attention for mandatory meals (breakfast and lunch on weekdays) and at ease for optional meals (weekends and dinner). We can do touch and go at dinner which means we can pick it up and bring it back to our rooms to eat, most of us just do that. We run on the marble yes. I'm lucky to be in Vandenburg tower which is the closest to Fairchild hall, but I pity people at Sijan tower, its a long jog. I have good roommates. One lives 5 miles from me at home, so its great. Keep asking away and we'll answer!

" I had analytical chem this morning--double period."

Is that chem 141 or is that a honors chem. Just wondering son's ALO wasn't sure what they would do with him with his 5 on the AP Chem. The website really doesn't have a "when you get this then you will take that next on the chart next."

Hornetguy, would that be M3/M4? or are you a M1/M2?
The far end of Vandy isn't a short stroll either! D'OH!

AFA81, He will probably make it into chem 222 (advanced level for doolies) as long as he does not forget all his chem. I got a 4 on AP Chem and still did well enough to get into 222.

I'm in Chem 222. I got a 5 on my AP exam, but it was because of the validation exam here plus my academic profile they have of me AND because I volunteered for 222 that I was placed there. I have M3/M4 period.

My other classes are all on T days

T1B Engr 100 (intro to engr. systems)
T2A Math 253 (calc 3, multi var calc)
T3A Comp Sci 110H (comp sci honors)
T4A Japanese 221 (Intermed Japanese 1)

Boxing T5 B session

Yeah, if you have a good AP score you'll get placed into 222, provided you don't bomb the placement exam. My advice would be to take 222 if you have the opportunity because you get your chem requirement over with in 1 semester instead of 2 and it's a lot more lab based (which I liked a lot) than 141/142, which are just memorizing the basics. Also, the teacher I had was really cool...she spent more time talking about real life stuff than chemistry...the other teacher is cool, but he's pretty hardcore on not getting off topic. Anyway, to summarize, people who place well will get put into 222, which is more than worth taking.

Thanks will pass that on to S.

How did you get into the Comp Sci Honors another placement exam and AP test? Or just the exam?

Just so you all know:

If you got a 5 on the AP test and placed into 222 you do NOT have to take the class. You validated out of it. However, you were placed into it still. If you want to get out of it you'll have to move on that.

I have confirmed this with the chemistry department.

Comp Sci is by valdation exam only. Top 30 scorers get to validate the class. Next 80 people are enrolled in honors. This comes from my teacher.

"My other classes are all on T days"

When you don't have any classes, do you get to go to the field house, hang out, etc, or does it turn into "beat time"?

Thanks TacticalNuke for clearing up my questions about my son's schedule. I wondered why my son did not have to take Chem at all this first year. I re-read pages 12 and 13 of the most recent "Instructions to Appointees" booklet. It does not mention anything about NOT having to take the Chem 222 class. My son said he was 1 of the 32 4th degrees that tested out of chem 141/142. He scored a 4 on the AP exam but must have done well on the placement test.

When I don't have classes I can hang in my room and work or do stuff on the comp. Or I can go to the library, which I will favor as the year kicks in gear. We don't get beat, but its probably best to stay out of squadron just in case too many upperclassmen are around and you can't remember names. With that in mind, they can only beat on monday and friday during the day (potentially) because we are in blues tues-thurs; we cannot be trained in those at all. Basically, you have the school hours to youself. Only time they force you in the squadron is for noon meal formation minutes, not aloud to avoid those. But I have a T day 4th period and my chem class has many, many double days (M3 AND M4 periods) so I won't have to be here too often.

Any more questions?

momof3boyz, here's a completely useless note on Academy jargon: fourth classmen, fourth class cadet, or cadet fourth class are all fine, but we never say fourth degree. It's just "four degree." "Four degree" is the most common term of address: "hey four degree!" "Cadet fourth class" is a title that precedes a name, like you should use to address a package. "Fourth classmen" and "fourth class cadet" may be used to speak about four degrees. lol this gets more complicated than I thought. Most importantly and most commonly messed up, there are no "one degrees" or "first degrees," only firsties. Confused yet?

Sorry for the incorrect title reference.
There is a reason I did not want to take the Military Knowlege Test. My head is spinning already! It's a good thing my kids are smarter than me (when it comes to military knowledge). LOL

as a quick note, our Military knowledge test at the end of BCT was ridiculously easy. I got a 96 on it and no one in our FLT failed. I mean, even if you didn't know any knoledge, it was really just common sense answers. :) Won't be like that anymore!

I knew that it would be easy, when one of the first questions was "Who is the Commander-in-Chief?" We're not going to have tests like that again!
