For the people who live in dorms

Are you guys required to leave your dorms during breaks?

I think it depends on the college.

Btw, i like your screenname

I believe that we are at mine but im not entirely sure

yah i have to leave during breaks, theres one on my campus that u dont have to leave

At my school, I could stay for $500.

dipset, many colleges will make you leave for christmas and summer breaks, but for breaks like thanksgiving or spring break that are a week or so long we are allowed to stay for free.

don't forget mid-year break where you get like 3 weeks off almost from classes til next semester starts.

The state University that I'm going to kicks everyone out for all breaks longer than a 3-day weekend. I think that the more elite schools have kids coming from all directions and distances, so it makes sense for dorms to stay open for short breaks. The Harvard kid that is from L.A. would get home just in time for Thanksgiving dinner, and then have to get on a plane going back to school by Friday night. It's not worth the trouble or money to only be home a day or two.

we can stay during short breaks but must leave during longer breaks

Academic break housing is available at some dorms on my campus for a fee- I think the only time you HAVE to leave is winter break.

at my college you could stay whenever you wanted. i had plenty of friends who stayed there during all of christmas/winter break.. i know i stayed there a few nights when i was in the area. and with summer break, it all depends. if you're taking classes at the school you can stay there, if you're working at the school you can stay there, but if you're just wanting to hang out in the area all summer you have to stay somewhere else.

At my school they kick us out of the dorms for all the breaks. The on-campus apartment residents are allowed to stay on the shorter breaks (thanksgiving, spring break) but they get kicked out at the end of the year if they aren't staying in the same apartment during the summer and during Christmas break. At my school though, most people live off-campus in apartments so it's not an issue.

At my school--certain dorms kick everyone out for breaks and others don't. Basically the crappy high-rises kick you out, and the other (nicer) ones let you stay.

My school:

Thanksgiving and spring breaks you can stay, winter break you have to go home, dorms are open for 10 weeks in the summer and you can live in the for free if you're working at least 30 hours/week for the college.
