Is there anyone here that considers themself generally intelligent that truly understands the fine line between race and ethnicity?

Lol.

High School Life.

Lol :D

(No, I don't, sorry.)

yea, i do.

race = biological. subdivision of species. there aren't "races" in the human species.

ethnicity = cultural. imo, judaism is an ethnicity.

^not 100% on ethnicity. that's by best guess. oh, and i don't think it's a fine line. unless the grand canyon is just a crack.

If I remember from AP Human Geo, ethnicities are also supposed to have ties to a certain place.

Meh... it is possible to understand the difference, but I think its a load of baloney.

Maybe OP meant nationality and ethnicity?

If so, nationality = where you were born, and ethnicity = cultural background
ex. born in America(nationality) but parents/grandparents/great grandparents and so on are Polish(ethnicity)

the ossetians come to mind...

I'm not too sure about this either but, from what I've heard, there are only three races - caucasian, negroid and asian while there are tons of ethnicities - latino, african-american (NB not all black people are african american), italian-american, etc. Ethnicity is more about culture while race is more about physical characteristics determined thousands of years ago.

Some ethnicities are better are better at races than others?

(Don't kill me).

I don't get your question.

That's a very American way of looking at things. Pretty much sorts the world into peoples involved in the American experience: whites, blacks, and East Asians.

The 3 race theory runs into problems when you consider peoples like Dravidian Indians, Polynesians, Meso-Americans, Central Asians, etc.

"That's a very American way of looking at things."

I guess so. Perhaps the definitions of race and ethnicity change depending on where you're from? For example, race and ethnicity in the US is different from race and ethnicity in Brazil, etc.

It's caucasoids, negroids, and mongoloids btw.

^ and Australoids... heh.
