I've been wait listed, and it sucks royally. Does anyone have any clue what percentage of the wait listed actually get in? And is it true that we have to wait another month and a half? I mean that is just cruel. Are all of you other wait listeds gonna keep at it?

I'm sorry to hear that you got waitlisted...according to Newsweek's 2004 college edition - 1,593 students were waitlisted and 3.5% were admitted.

I got waitlisted at JHU as well. My dream school for EVERRR

I'm going up there next week with all my suppliments and my determined self to be a JHU class of 2009.

Yep

wait so where do we go from here?

a very awesome starryeyedgirl said this to a friend on the brown board:

adam make sure you contact brown ASAP and tell them how much you still love the school and how much you are still interested. send any updates (awards, grades, etc), have your counselor send a follow up, maybe an additional rec. from a teacher...write them a letter leaving no doubt in their minds that you want to go to brown next year

last year i heard they took a (relatively) good amount from the list, but they take the people who want it...good luck!!

finally, i saw this on an LJ and it may be helpful to you in some way: http://www.livejournal.com/communit...66.html?#cutid1

My son was waitlisted too. Will this never end?

asdfTT... that statistic is misleading, becase most people who applied and got waitlisted did not accept a place on the waitlist. USnews has better stats:

Qualified applicants placed on waiting list: 1,702
Applicants accepting a place on waiting list: 675
Students enrolled from waiting list: 84

So the real number is 12.4%

Well...its better than 3.5%. :D

Carrera, What year were those statistics for? I came across this chart
(about 2/3 way down the link) for 2004. It looks like 132 were accepted, maybe 84 enrolled?

Last year was an odd situation for JHU. They had a relatively low yield, so they dipped into the waitlist. John Latting, the Dean of Admissions, was quoted in the Wall Street Journal as basically emphatically stating that such a situation "will not occur next year [i.e. 2005]."

I don't want to dash anyone's hopes, but it's very unlikely that that many people will be admitted off the waitlist. Don't give up, but look into your other options. Remember that JHU accepts a LOT of transfers, even after one semester.

Best of luck to everyone!

eh, It's all speculation till May 1st.

Also, do they lose a lot of first semester freshmen - if they accept second semester transfers?

Freshman retention rate is 95%. Nothing like answering myself. ha

hey dont worry, about 5 of my friends got accepted but wont be going to JHU, and a few who got waitlisted arent interested anymore and so wont be sending back the slip to remain waitlisted... there is hope

waitlisted, too. eh, whatever, i didn't put much effort into johns hopkins.. decided last minute to apply. oh well.

i dont really know anything about jhu's undergrad program.. obviously their med school is top notch.. can anyone give a general statement on its undergraduate? perhaps compared to northwestern? cuz im considering going there..

same here, i forgot to submit my supplement and app fee. boy am I an idiot and somewhat lucky that i still pulled through to get on the wait list. my app saved me.

haha yea. i didn't submit my app fee until they told me to. i think it was cuz u had to mail it in or something instead of being able to pay online. so i just kinda put it in the back of my mind.. i sent it in with my financial aid stuff a few weeks ago. i didnt do financial aid stuff for every school that didn't ask for it.. i didn't know i had to send the stuff in..
