For the "what perspective can you bring to Rice" essay

are you just supposed to talk about your culture? Or are you supposed to talk about how you've met people from a variety of backgrounds? Or something else entirely?

Can I talk about my lunch group, and how it contains people of all different backgrounds? Maybe have a bio format like

Rachel: A girl who takes special education courses...
Christine: Newly immigrated from China...

tell them your point of view…what perspective you will bring to today’s issues and other topics around you…
tell them where you’re coming from and how you will accept others’ point of view also
hope it helps!

what makes YOU unique, not your friends
but
you could say your interest in other peoples backgrounds,c ulture etc. and work something out of that

last min essay ftw huh? ;P

yeah - you need to talk about YOU. your friends dont bring anything to Rice… so keep it to you being special

My son talked about being a distance runner in Maine (challenging during the winter!), an Eagle Scout, and a scholar. I think the essay came out pretty solide, but we’ll see!

I think the essay is simpler than it looks. Just say something special to you; that automatically IS is your perspective.

I talked about an activity I liked doing and how it revealed certain aspects of my personality and what I would bring to Rice. Not as stilted as it sounds (I hope :))

I just talked about my personality, and how I like to devote myself in supporting others, (related to a few activities I do…)

I made mine an extended metaphor to being a photographer.

It should ideally be about YOU, not your friends (I know you heard this already… but really!) Just show them how your point of view differs from other people’s.

thanks for all the advice, guys. it really helped :)

Mine was about cooking and how it related to life.

I wrote about a specific event in my life and how I would bring my creativity and audacity with me wherever I go.
