This is the second time someone in our family has applied to IU, and they both applied to other places, as well. I think IU is pretty on top of it. ALL schools continue to nag you saying they need transcripts, when they have them and are just backed up. Some amount of patience is expected here.

I spoke with someone in Admissions today. She was very nice and explained they are focusing first on the applications that were in their office by November 1. Since we had to use the paper application, ours probably didn't get there until November 3 or so. My main concern was that merit scholarship funds would be exhausted by the time the backlog was addressed, but she didn't feel that was likely to happen.

ctmomof3,

All the messages you are getting after logging into your son's account sound very generic, including your most recent one. My son kept getting generic, generic, and generic for six weeks after applying. Finally called them and sure enough, the transcript was in the physical file, but not noted in their computerized checklist of items needed to complete the application. Your application can't be reviewed by the counselor assigned to your geographic region until it is complete.

If you have not received anything from IU saying your application materials are complete, you should call them and they can tell you over the phone very quickly-- just a minute or two-- whether the application is complete, whether counselor's signature form and transcripts have been recorded as being matched up with your son's online application. The number is (812) 855-0661, and is also listed on the website. They take calls 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

I think people should call Admissions ONLY if they've been waiting an unusual period of time. They're busy enough in Admissions, they really don't need to be getting calls to see whether they got everything. It's better to have your child check with his or her counselor to confirm that everything has been sent in.

Thanks for your advice, I took you up on it and called! Glad I did, because there are actually pieces not even recieved yet!! OH NO, at least we now know!! Will keep in touch.............

ctmomof3,

That's great! Hopefully, they will expedite the review of the complete application when the missing pieces arrive. That's what they are doing for my son. He supposedly never had his transcripts sent to IU, but they were in his physical file since the end of September and had not been checked in properly in their database until Tuesday. We checked with the hs counselor in early October, and he confirmed items were sent to IU; the counselor cannot tell you, however, whether they were properly processed at IU. If they were not, the process stops completely and nothing can be forwarded to the admissions counselor who makes the decision to admit.

I'll post when my son is accepted, and that might give you an idea of how long it will take after your application is complete and with an expedited review. Your time from the completed application to getting a decision might even be shorter than ours, as the admissions office is probably making a lot of progress in reducing the backlog.

Thanks, will keep you posted, please do the same...very frustrating as my son feels the longer it takes the less spots there are, and he is nervous about this.....

^^^^^^^^^^
I understand how he feels. I am the same way. I feel like the longer they take to consider me, the less room they will have and the more picky they will be. Just trying to be patient but it gets harder every day.

I was hesitant to call for some of the same reasons, thinking the flood of calls would further slow down the process. However, when I called the folks at the admissions office actually encouraged me to call once a week to determine whether my paper application had been received. Turned out not to be necessary, as we received an e-mail a couple days later confirming receipt.

Son got notification on website today that he is in. No mention of scholarship yet, but he is sure to get eight thousand for in-state and direct admit to Kelley. Such a relief to get the news.

Ctmomof3, admissions found our transcripts Tuesday and expedited the process since we applied Oct. 10 and transcripts were there in Sept but unmatched to the application. Took less than a week to be admitted after application matched up. Hope you here some good news soon!

Congrats, bthomp1!

Thanks, Silverweed! Hope you hear something soon. What a relief!
