What is the story on winter. Now that its serious decision time, how low does it go, for how long and how dark????????????????????

I live about 1.5-2 hours away from Carleton, and I can say truthfully that the winters here in southern Minnesota are not that bad. Real winter weather lasts from about December to March , with shorts weather ending in late September and resuming in mid to late April. As for darkness, day length here is about the same as anywhere else in the country; just a few minutes shorter than someplace like New York. Usually there are just a few days a year when it gets much below zero temperature-wise. Bottom line: don't fear Minnesota weather. With climate changes taking place, each year seems to be milder than the last. And when there is snow, it is lots of fun to play in!

Remember that carleton has a long six week break between fall and winter terms that goes from Thanksgiving to January.

I'm not going to lie; the winters are pretty brutal, at least temperature-wise. I don't know where you're coming from, but if you're not accustomed to single-digit and sub-zero temperatures, sometimes for weeks at a time, it's going to take some getting used to. It's been below freezing as early as October and as late as April (I believe there was snow around this day last year or the year before), but January and February are the toughest (since there are no classes in December). There's not usually as much snow, or at least there hasn't been in recent years.

You can get used to it, though; it got to the point where I would wear shorts to the rec center if it was 20 or above.

i've heard carleton girls are renown for their ugliness. is this true.

That stereotype has been addressed several times in this forum. You'll be visiting soon, you decide.
