I'm writing an essay about my experiences in Chinese School as a white girl... just curious about what you would think if you saw a white girl there, etc. I'm trying to show how I felt like a minority for the first time, but I don't really want to sound like a victim.

Though maybe Chinese Schools in other parts of the country do have lots of white people? That would be good to know.

I'm also sort of worried about sounding racist... Por ejemplo, there was a performance where we needed to wear a traditional Chinese outfit, but I obviously didn't have one. The adopted Chinese kids got to borrow someone's, but they couldn't find anybody whose clothes would be big enough for me.

I don't know. Just let me know what you think?

lol. There are ABSOLUTELY NO other people than Chinese in my Chinese School.

"Clothes big enough"...are you learning with kids younger than you?

I think you could go for a "diversity" type of view instead of being a minority in there.

yeah, that's sort of what I'm looking for.

I was with 6 and 7 year-olds, haha. This year, I skipped a grade so I'm with like 8 year-olds.

chinese school alternates between being awesome and being horrible. mostly, though, it's just hilarious.

Ah, I was thinking you were fluent and placed in your own age group. lol, that would be pretty amazing.

So now I think you shouldn't go for a type of view...just go for how it is/was. I think anyone in a different age group would experience something weird, no matter which language.

heh everybody my age quit Chinese school a few years ago.. the oldest kids are maybe 14 or 15?

but no, it's definitely weird regardless of age group. still useful though, maybe enough to test out of a first level college class?

o_O First level college class? I'm in 10th grade for Chinese School..and I can barely read a newspaper.. :( The language is hard indeed.
