For those interested in impacted majors

Thanks for your interest in the Jacobs School. Unfortunately the majors Bioengineering and Bioengineering: Biotechnology are impacted majors, meaning that you must chose them as your first choice major in your application to UCSD in order to be reviewed for them. The Bioengineering Department reviews all the people who put this as their first choice and chooses only a select number of applicants to be admitted to the major. It is a very competitive applicant pool and unfortunately not everyone can be admitted. If you aren’t admitted at this time you can never switch into either of those 2 majors. Since you are already in the Bioengineering Department you do have the option of applying to be admitted to the Bioengineering: Bioinformatics major, but admission to this major is not guaranteed. You can get more information about this at the Bioengineering website. You also have the option of switching into any non-impacted Engineering major and you can get more information about that on the Jacobs School Prospective Students Webpage.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions and congratulations on your admission to UCSD!
