for those of you moving in from the east coast...

im guessing a large majority of you are flying in right? what are you going to be taking? a backpack, lets say 2 pieces of check in luggage, and a laptop bag? and whatever else, have your parents bring it?

what happens if you want to bring a TV/printer, etc.? if you bring it in the luggage, it will take up lots of space plus the possibility of it getting somewhat smashed. but if you're planning on buying these things after moving in, will you buy it in person at a store or order it online? but if you order it online, will you feel safe having it shipped to campus?

sorry for all the questions, i just want to cover all my bases and see everyone there on the 22nd!

i'm flying in with my mom, so i'll probably take more than 2 pieces of luggage, i'll just have her claim them as hers. as for big stuff, like a tv, lamp, fan, etc, i'm going to buy it once i get to LA (i'm coming about 5 days early). i got a printer free when i got my laptop though, so i'm shipping that. i was a little worried about it getting there before move in day & being sent back, so i had it shipped to my mom's sister who lives nearby & i'm going to pick it up when i get there.

idk if that helps at all, sorry.

Having a parent fly out with you makes a big difference, because you can have four pieces of 50lbs luggage between you two. I don't trust airlines with electronics in checked luggage, because bags really get knocked around.

Shipping items UPS or Fedex Ground is also sensible for items you don't need the instant you move in. Deliveries to the school are very safe. The courier brings all packages inside to your building's Customer Service Center where the boxes are tagged and sorted. Students must show their USCard and sign a slip when picking up packages at the desk.

FWIW- We were just at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they will pack and ship to your dorm (e.g. about $12 for a $100-150 purchase.)
