For those of you that are 4.0 students...

Why did you just apply to Berkeley and UCLA? (as im assuming). Im just curious because I'd imagine a 4.0 student to be eligible to other schools such as Harvard, Yale, MIT, etc.

P.S. Im talking about community college transfers.

I intended to, but in the end it came down to two limitations: SAT score and unwillingness to pay for an Ivy for UG.

We can save Ivy for grad school! :D

You need the SAT after community college?!

For many non-UC colleges you would need the SAT

To apply to most privates like the ones in the aforementioned post, yes.

It’s a lot more than grades.

Russkiy_Bear, you seem to have A LOT more than just grades so why don’t you qualify? And why would no one else take the SAT to be eligible?

Umm, because UCLA and Berkeley and EXCELLENT schools.

Don’t forget time management. It takes time to prepare for grad school.

Kal7, so what your trying to say is that it is better to hold off IVY schools until grad school?

Personal reasons. I love the Bay Area. I grew up here and can’t see myself going to the east right now. Also, Haas is an excellent school. I have family attending Haas now, so that adds to the incentive.

I am saving ivy’s for MBA :)

I wouldn’t say better for everybody but it sure is for me. Since I plan to be in school for a long time it makes more sense for me to develop a long range plan and my plan was to stand out as an undergrad and get into top graduate programs because that’s where I’ll be hired from.

What do you want to do?

Harvard, Yale, etc. turn down 4.0 students all the time. If that was the only prerequisite for admission, their acceptance rates would be much, MUCH higher. :)

I was just wondering if you go to an IVY after a four year university is it easy? Would going from community college to UCB or UCLA take the same effort as those UC’s to Harvard?

LOL I pmed that question to some guy and he called me “AirArlen”.

Russkiy_Bear those are great reasons to choose a school.

Kal7 your plan makes a lot of sense and makes your way actually seem better! Well Im not too sure but Business is my major.

Kal7, I would think so too! :)

It really depends on what you’re trying to do.

Look, you can pretty much get anywhere you want from the top UCs. It just takes planning and work and both are never easy.

The thing is that while it’s not easy to get from cc to UCB or UCLA you can do it with careful planning. But to get into a good grad program you actually have to bring something to the table. It stops being about your 4.0 and what matters is how well you’ve explored your subject.

Listen to Kal7, he knows what he is talking about.

Determination + Ambition = Success

Yeah, you business majors have it tough in my opinion, Russkiy_Bear. After Haas I imagine you have to work then apply to an MBA?
