For those of you who are accepted to multiple UCs...

For those of you who are accepted to multiple UCs, what do you look most into in deciding which UC do go?

Attractiveness of the women… Just kidding.

I would say social environment and location ( if fits your personality / interests ), Financial Aid, Prestige.

For me, it’s an easy choice

I only applied to UCLA and UCD (although UCLA decisions are yet to be released.), I applied/TAGed into Davis as a backup.

If I had applied/been accepted to more than 3, like applying to SB for instance, it would be a harder decision.

Distance is a big factor in my decision. I would pick SB over Davis because I live in Orange County

Money

Engineering ranking

Prestige

Women and I do mean it!

Social environment

How far is it away from home. The further, the better!

Near a beach?

A gym

Living conditions

Traffic

Friends from current CCC

FOOD!

If the major I applied to is something I really want to pursue. ('Cus not ALL majors are the same for each UC)

Location, Location, Location!! For me, it’s the proximity of beaches/sun/city. One is good, two is great, all three would be PERFECT.

What financial aid package they offer me. Full-ride? 10grand/semester? 5grand (womp)

That’s basically it! What @Eviity said, it has to fit your personality/interest. If you’re going to be miserable at a more “prestigious” school, then you’re probably not going to do so well academically and socially (which is important for networking).

This then links to if you’re going to graduate school and you messing up because you thought you look better going to a more prestigious school, but you were miserable and now your gpa sucks and you get rejected from every graduate program you’ve applied to. (Run on sentence, but point being, just because you go to Berkeley/LA/SD/SB/Davis does NOT mean that it’ll make you look better if you were miserable and suffered a blow from there). You will do well where you are happy.

Short story: My Oncologist went to a CSU and is now one of the top Oncologists in Kaiser - Northern California. (Dr. Amy Nelson) She said UC’s were too expensive at the time, and only applied to Berkeley/LA because the application was waived. (Getting accepted and rejecting both of them). When I heard this I thought she was CRAY, but alas, she’s a freaggin’ genius and I’m alive now cancer-free because of her.

It being Cal (or UCLA)

The school’s ratings

How good are their psych and media/communications departments (I’m going to try to double major)

It being in or near a city I wouldn’t mind spending the next two years in. (Davis is automatically out - for some reason I can’t recall I tagged it last semester)

Financial aid is very important to me but I will try to compensate for what I don’t get as long as I get to go to the UC of my choice

Having my major. My major is pretty obscure and only 3 UC’s have it.

Distance from home. I wanted to be at least a 2 hour drive from home, but not more than four hours.

Next to the beach because I surf.

Those were literally the 3 things I was looking for. I don’t care about rank or prestige because it doesn’t matter. College is what you make of it. Almost all the UCs are on the same rank anyway. If Merced fit my criteria, I would go there.

I’m from LA and got accepted to UCSB,UCSD, UCSC and UCD. I was either going to go to UCSB or UCSD but I chose SB because it has what I want In a school: It’s on the beach, only UC with my true major, and it’s 2 hours from home.

Perceived prestige of the program

How many classes are accepted (schools can be picky about computer science and I’m not going to take freshman-level classes if I can help it – Davis takes all of my classes, so the bar has been set)

Financial aid

Listed in terms of importance:

Quality of program (i.e. whether or not faculty is known to be active in research and projects)

Financial Aid package offered

Location (I don’t want to live too close to home haha)

Women (sad but true lol)

Funny thing is that I’m turning down all the offers I’ve gotten from the UC’s to go to Cal Poly SLO. Go figure!

da boize… gotta luv a 6:1 ratio of DUDES TO LADIES

ATMOSPHERE …not the rapper but would be stoked if he went to one

Fewd fewd fewd… CANT LIVE WITHOUT IT OMSGHEFUASCK

Business program ~~holla!

PEOPLE

Distance from my home

Prestige/major program

Environment

I’m older than most others here, being 35. I was accepted to UCSC and UCLA (UCSB rejected) so for me the big factors were:

1) Would I have to sell my home?
2) Giving up my job & retirement?
3) Prestige of the degree/program with HR for when I want to advance into that field
4) Internship and research opportunities.

Speaking with the people in HR who handle hires and transfers, UCLA is an almost automatic hire/transfer, has internships available with my department and ones I would like to explore, and the professors are some of the leading authors and researchers in the specific area I want to get into.

Plus I get to keep my job and my home. So… was kind of a no brainer.
