How important is it to stay within 400-500 words ?

I think you have to look deep within you, and come up with an essay that taps into the essence of who you are. Through relating your experience with alcohol abuse, you can you tangibly show your own emotional catharsis--i.e. how did it change the person you are and bring you to the next emotional level? Were you irrevocably changed, if so how? What part did introspection and spirituality play in your transformation?

If, in telling your story, you can answer the aforementioned questions and answer them well, I'd say give it a green light. If you aren't sure, I'd go with something else.

As stated, ND is no stranger to alcohol abuse. Thus, if you bring this up, it should be in the context of how and why you have fundamentally changed so that something like this would not happen in the future...

I think your story is interesting, and seeing your grades I think you willsuccessfully be able to convey your message. Go for it.. You got great stats....

Ok sorry for this being two messages but i forgot my second point

But, I know a lot of kids who have been caught with alcohol, so make sure your emphasis, is not on how you got caught and what happened,,, rather how you rebounded from it......

Oh and btw....I dont go to ND.... so I have no idea what they look for....so you dont need to accept my advice..but thats just my 2 cents

I believe that Notre Dame consistently announces that approx. 85% of students admitted and attending - i.e., their undergraduate student population - is Catholic. I remember looking it up last year when someone claimed the number was less than 10%. And I do not think they are prejudiced against non-Catholics. I think the percntage simply reflects their applicant pool and - probably - that Catholics may be more likely to attend if accepted.
