how do you get to and from campus if you're flying in from out of state and the airport is some distance away? do you take the bus, shuttle, or get a ride from friends?

In the past I have gotten rides to the airport from friends. However, from now on I will be driving the 2,000 mile distance for various reasons.

My school has shuttles from the airport…or you can take a cab.

I will be driving there. From what I remember from my campus tour there wasn’t a gas station from the time you crossed the state line until the time you reached the city the college was at (maybe an hour or so more away). It’s quite a scary trip, lol! But it should be interesting.

At Clemson, you can either get a ride from someone or the school offers an (expensive) shuttle service, $45/each way to Greenville, SC or $130/each way to Atlanta, Charlotte

Howdy!!!

my school has a shuttle directly from the airport to the campus

When I attended school in Plattsburgh the airport I used was a 3-hour drive away in Albany. So I flew from my homestate to Albany and then the Amtrak from Albany to Plattsburgh and then a cab from Amtrak to the college.

The above is also partially why I transferred to Columbia. That trek back and forth was just too irritating after awhile.

My college is in the middle of nowhere, but it has its own airport. Luckily the drive is only 4 hours from home and manageable, flight tickets cost like $700 dollars or something ridiculous.

^yeah a lot of small airports have ridiculous taxes and fees that drive up the price. I take the train home because it’s cheaper than flying out of Greenville, SC. Hopefully that problem will be fixed with Southwest starts service next year.

Do you take Amtrak by any chance?

BTW, Furman is one of the school’s on my short list…I was wondering if flying into Charlotte would be better than flying into Greenville…

I either will drive home (almost 7 hours), take a shuttle (2 hours 30 min) to take a train (5 hours) to a stop an hour from me, take the break bus (8-10 hours) to a town 45 min from me, or take a greyhound from my college town to another place (4 hours) to a city (6 hours) and then a commuter train (1 hour) home.

i want to be able to drive all the time… so much easier having a car on campus. im actually in the middle of nowhere.

CrownOftheSea, I go to South Carolina and for most people the convenience factor plays a part in deciding what airport you fly out of. Flights out of Columbia’s airport tend to be more expensive compared to Charlotte’s, but only by 30 or 40 dollars. Sometimes it is just easier to not have to deal with the shuttle and fly out of Columbia.

CrownOfTheSea, I choose to take Amtrak because I don’t mind the 22 hour trip and it costs less, but if there’s a cheaper way to get out of Greenville, I’ll fly out.
