Our school does not rank or weight grades and the highest passing grade is a C- (no Ds). The student’s gpa is listed on transcript along with the decile in class where thir gpa falls. The profile does not list the average gpa, only average SAT and ACT scores.

No averages are provided. There is a table with ranges (e.g. 3.75-3.99) and the percentage of students at or above each range. There are also three tables doing the same for SAT M, V, and CR. Each table also has a “middle 50% range.”

Even at schools that normally do not rank, many will confidentially rank for college admissions/scholarship decisions. The college will usually contact the GC to get an idea of where the student falls.

Goaliegirl’s school officially does not rank except for Val and Sal. However to do that, they must calculate the weighted average for all (and it is a complicated formula using AP/Honors + an additional factor for how many weighted classes were taken simultaneously). However, when I called her school to find out how they were going to handle her ROTC application (rank or decile is required), they were able to tell me both her weighted and unweighted GPA on the spot. Obviously it wouldn’t take long for them to calculate rank (order all the students by weighted GPA in a spreadsheet), but they normally don’t do that until the very end and then just for Val and Sal. However, they did let me know that they would provide decile information to the ROTC folks. Sounds like they really do rank, but keep it private.

I know that our school - which is adamant about not ranking - will provide rank to the service academies if necessary, so I agree - the ranks are in a “secret” field of the database.

School profile reflects unweighted averages for JUNIOR year only with % in each category…i.e. 3.0-3.24 30%

Mid range UW GPA is in that range; no further info provided except breakdowns of individual classroom grades in each subject (yes, I know this is highly unusual)…
