For Those of You With Misgivings...

I read a lot of negative reviews about Berkeley before coming here: apathetic professors, alienation, general shabbiness, the whole lot. But I've been here for a week, and I'm truly having the time of my life. Classes are stimulating; professors are friendly and energetic; the students I've met are (for the most part) intelligent, considerate, and down-to-earth; the buildings are quirky and beautiful, and just walking down Bancroft is an adventure everyday. So for any of you considering Berkeley: please consider, but don't be too put off by negative remarks. College is what you make of it, and though I don't have as much experience as many (or most) people in this forum, I can already see and feel so much of what makes Berkeley a wonderful place to grow and learn. :)

Anyone else having a really good first week?

I’ve also been here for a week and I’m liking it a lot!! Ditto, what you said; professors who are funny, energetic, and very interested in what they do. The students all seem very unique, intelligent, creative, etc. and I love my independence here! I have responsibilities, no one tells me what to do/when to study anymore, I make my own little schedules every day with study times and different club meetings…and you’re right, just walking around campus is an adventure because the buildings are so beautiful, there are so many people, so many things to do, etc. :D

I admit that as an OOS it kinda sucks to see all these groups of people who already know each other from high school, but I’m trying to join different clubs and stuff :)

this will change.

Hahahaha…as classes get more intense later on, and homework starts seriously piling up…Something tells me to not doubt that.

Been here a week, tell others to not be put off by negative remarks.

Or you can attend these first five weeks of MCB102. ;)

I don’t know, I go back and forth about this place a lot. Some days, I love it here. The weather is beautiful. I’ve had a lot of pretty good professors. Other days, I feel isolated because I’m bored. Most people here seem to be studying 24/7. I get done with my work quickly and want to go out and ‘play’ but no one is available! So I get restless. Maybe I just should have went to a livelier school… Haha!

go visit uchicago and get back to us on that one.

If you’ve noticed, most of the negativity posts come around midterm and finals season.

^ or when grades come out. lol

^ LOL… well most of the time u have a good idea of what you are going to get before the grade comes out :P
