For those on FA waitlists

I just want to say that I am sending good thoughts your way. We sent in our deposit to one school, and sent in the cards/letters declining two other offers, which also had large financial aid awards. So, there is definitely some more money available for you! We have nothing against these two schools, and it was a hard decision. I hope that by our declining, you will be helped. Hopefully, you will soon get good news. Hang in there as long as you can!

Just wondering....has anyone heard good news about FA waitlists? There seems to only have been bad news posted so far. I hope that the money we declined is going to another hopeful applicant, rather than just back into a general fund.

Yes, bad news also. My daughter did not get off the FA waitlist and we were told it could happen in the summer but might need to move on. Top school in Ct. It appears that some schools have overbooked and more current families are looking for more aid in this recession.

I thought that schools also overawarded, the same way they overadmit, knowing not everyone will accept. Therefore, just because you turn back your award, it does not mean it will be available for someone else.

keylyme--I agree. The message feels like, "we like you, just not that much!"

I remember well the pain we all felt when my D was on a FA waitlist to the only school to which she was admitted. Fortunately, we found another school post April 10 that was happy to admit her with a generous FA package.

I didn't really feel that way. The administration explained to me that we weren't the only ones in this situation as the school had a lot of faculty children coming in that year....and they all get full rides (I guess those $$ come out of the FA pool). But, also, we knew that our son would most likely be admitted the following year with the aid he needed....they pretty much indicated that to us and asked us to reapply for the same grade. We were okay with it...I really wasn't ready to part with my youngest yet and, as fate would have it, he suffered a serious athletic injury in August which required surgery and lots of rehab....so thank goodness he wasn't scheduled to go that first year!

I didn't think about the possibility that schools would over-award as well as over-admit. Good point.
