If you knew your expecting child is diagnosed with down syndrome, would you abort the fetus?

Pro-life people are usually hardcore pro-life and would never abort it because God must have wanted them to have a kid with downs syndrome for a reason and they will love it no matter what.

this is going to turn out well.

I just realized where this would have probably headed, so I edited it. :)

I really hate discussions like this so I don't know why I responded......

nope .

if i were prolife then i guess i'd have to keep the kid or else id be called a hypocrite

Pro-lifers believe that god puts every single individual on earth for a reason, regardless of mental or physical defects, not only would aborting that child be wrong religiously, it would be a disgrace to society.

I don't believe a parents would say "this one aint good enough let's get rid of it and try again." Most parents would love their child and care for them whether they have down syndrome or not.

Yea..what the hell? what's wrong with you? If your kid is diagnosed with down syndrome, what are you going to do? Throw it out the window? Put it up for adoption? You're not going to give him or her the love he or she deserves? What's wrong with you?

alright....so when I meant you...I wasn't really saying about you personally, just anyone who says yes they would abort their child...shows how great of a parent you'll be

"alright....so when I meant you...I wasn't really saying about you personally, just anyone who says yes they would abort their child...shows how great of a parent you'll be"

Which is fundamental pro-life thinking. however I think Abortion is only allowed up to a certain point in the pregnancy by which it is most likely indeterminable if the child will have any physical or mental handicaps.

Ehhh...I'm not fundamentally pro-life....just fundamentally pro-babies.... fundamental...ehh..that word sucks

Wow, if you aborted a kid for that reason, then you are one cold, heartless person.

Now, if someone was on fire and was definitely going to die and wanted to get it over with quickly, I'd give the mercy shot.

yeah, i think i would have my kid if he was going to just have down syndrome. i mean, kids with down syndrome can be happy and live fairly productive lives. however, if my kid had no chance whatsoever, like tay sachs or edward's syndrome, i would be much more likely to have the abortion.

i am pro-choice by the way.

More pressing question: What if your kid was going to be ugly?

I think it's a no-brainer.

Well, seeing as how I don't want kids, I'm basically doing anything possible to keep myself out of that situation: birth control pills, condoms, Plan B/Emergency Contraception if necessary. Abortion would be the absolute last resort for me, because while I'm pro-choice because I don't think it should be banned entirely, I'm really not a fan of abortion as birth control. I think if the kid is going to have a horrible disease that will lead to a sad, depressing, painful life or wouldn't live long past birth anyway then yes I would not ever fault someone that had an abortion for that reason. But if it's just because your kid will have down syndrome (which is one of the few mental disorders where the fetus can survive to term, be born, and the person can live a relatively productive life) that's probably unnecessary, although I certainly wouldn't try to stop someone from doing it early in the pregnancy when I think abortion should always be legal (up to 14 weeks is my standard, after that and you're pushing it). I'm not sure if it's possible to learn about possible disorders that early, though.

I'm only in support of abortion, because I would rather see a woman go into a clinic and have it done safely, for whatever reason that may be, rather than picking up a mangled clothes hanger and bleeding to death.

That's just me. But I encourage adoption and I do think abortion is selfish.

So in conclusion, I am not necessarily pro-choice or anti-abortion either.

This isn't about abortion in general. It's whether or not your fetus has down syndrome.

Whether or not your fetus has down syndrome can be determined prior to birth. Knowing the extra care and specialized treatments that are required, parent's are often consider it. In fact, I think its a lot more common with non healthy babies than it is anything else.

BTW, God doesn't initiate the down syndrome gene. Morons. LMFAO. Biggest con, ever.

and you know this how?

It appears you have direct contact with God. Can I be your friend Mr. Prophet? This way I can tell other what God does and doesn't do. I could probably make a lot of money.

I know this because God doesn't exist. Also, my username spells it out for you.

God put aside, would you?

Watching people try to rationalize abortion, especially for fetuse's with down syndrome is similar to trying to rationalize the Holocaust. Nazi's were big believers in abortion. Killing a person at 1 month is the same is killing your 90 year old grandmother. Lesson, don't want kids use birth control!
