For those that have completed the Common App

How long did it take you to fill out all the information for the common app EXCLUDING the essay and any supplements?

TIA!

15-20 minutes if you have everything prepared. Luckily I had kept up with everything I had done throughout HS so I just had to copy from this.

If you didn’t keep up and have to take time to think back it could take you anywhere from 45min-1hr.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Doesn’t sound too bad!

Besides the essays, it is extremely easy to fill out.

How many essays are there? I thought there was only one for the “basic” common app? All the others are for supplements, right?

^yes. 10char

thanks! 10char

Can one submit CA without the Essay portion and submit Essay later …

Technically you can have the CA portions done and submit it later but you have to finish the essay before you send the app to colleges along with supplements.

Hello, Is there anyway to find/print out the common app before actually going on and registering…I would like to preview and have info ready before going on live. Thank you.

I’ve heard that you can only submit different versions of CA essay several times. If you keep changing the content, eventually CA will not let you make any change to the essay.

Does that still stand with the new version of the common app? I know a lot of things have changed and so far i haven’t had problems with the essay portion locking me out.

It appears from the help section in the common app site that the essay can be submitted to schools in not more than 3 versions. It’s submitting to schools that’s limited, not editing. Unless you submit three different versions to schools, you won’t get locked out of your essay, as editing between submissions can be done without limit.
