For those that were defered like me

I was defered...... Anyway everyone should listen to some happy music (and by happy i am up beat beat and melody) i personally reccomend gypsy kings cause their music is fast and happy sounding. All of us deferals should calm down because at the end 23 percent of all early applicants are admitted. That is not counting those wait listed. If any one is feeling really unhappy and slightly unstable pm me or present your case in this thread or in the forum and someone will help you.

lol, I went and played Zigeunerweisen to cheer myself up.

Go listen to some techno :)

I got deferred as well. Where did you get the 23% from elpom55 (that number makes me feel better considering the 11% posted on MIT's site.)

After I found out, I listened to Phantom Regiment's 2003 Field Show, Harmonic Journey lol.

what should we do if we get deferred?

the stats come from last year's class

(377 early acceptances + 295 deferred people accepted)/(2965 total early applicants) = 23% total admission chance for early applicants

btw, 295/(2370 total deferees)= ~12.5%, so each one of us deferees still has a 12.5% chance of getting in. not too shabby :)

How did I cope?
Chinese food + Bowling + Emo Music (how could this happen to me?) + Christmas Musical = peace of mind

Ping Pong for 2 hours for me :)
(Afterall, I AM white....though not that nerdy.....and not at MIT!) :)

They say that enrolling in a college is the equivalent of marriage. Therefore, early decision is the equvialent of proposing. Getting accepted is a yes, getting rejected is a no.

So lets extend this analogy further:

Rolling schools are the kind that are impulsive that'll get you married in vegas.
EA is the equivalent of asking for a serious open relationship.
Deferred is saying, "I like you, I really do, but I'm not ready to make a commitment, give me a couple more months."

Damn, I get deferred in more ways than one.

Hey, deferral isn't all that bad. I was deferred by MIT and CalTech when I was applying to colleges; I later got into both. I know a reasonable number of people who were deferred by MIT and were later accepted. =] I don't know if it helps at all, but I got an additional teacher recommendation sent to MIT after I was deferred - I recall something about supplemental materials being good?

I got deferred too.......thought I could finally say goodbye to the whole process...now my process just go longer....

Haha, unlucky mike...then again...what if you don't want to make a commitment?

I was hoping the process would be over too. but guess not. can you update your EA application? I made a couple of typos and i didn't show that much passion during my MIT interview.

anyways, i should get back to my Stanford application...
