hey all,
i'm in gsp and I want to continue my french education starting the 2nd semester (since I couldn't make the proficiency exam). My question is for those who are taking a language this semester. Could you provide the following information...

Your last language course: ex:latin 3
Type of hs (private/public):
The highest your language curriculm went in hs: Latin 5
Did you take any aps? sat IIs?
What course did you place into at NYU?

i know it's different for each person but I'm just trying to get an idea of where most people are placing.

thanks

Sounds like you're talking about freshmen, but you didn't specify. I mean, in high school I took Spanish and scored a 7 on the IB exam, but I didn't start taking Chinese until junior year, and I started at Elementary I. Had I taken Spanish, I would've started at the Advanced level. So I'm not sure what kind of information you're looking for.

it was for freshman... but basically what you said. I'm tyring to get an general idea of how well language courses in hs prepared people for college level languages.
Basically what you said...
you took Chinese starting junior year and started in Elementary I
and you also took spanish.. but didn't continue at nyu.

thanks though.. your info was helpful

I took AP Spanish my senior year (scored a 4), in a public high school. It was the last spanish course my high school offered (Spanish I-IV + AP Spanish). I never took the Spanish SAT II, but when I took the language placement test during orientation, I was able to get rid of my language requirement. :)

EDIT: Hey, the quick reply function is working now!
