<p>Why does it seem like I'm the only person in the world who recognized the rebirth and subsequent overuse of the damned vocoder in r & b music. This is why I despise Akon and all that new crap I get shoved into my ears. Ugh. Okay I found one other person who had the same thought. Thank heavens:</p>

<p>Since I'm not a person involved with making music or heavily into the the equipment used by studios or musicians it seems a bit silly to think that "people should" know the difference. It's a very specific niche of knowledge about technology. So that's another gripe I'll bring up, what is with these people in every little corner of the information world thinking that everyone should the know the specifics they do. There's nothing wrong with figuring out the difference between things but EXPECTING someone to know something so unimportant to the general public, such as a vocoder vs autotune, is ridiculous.</p>
<p>Hey wolfmanjack, it's not so much whether the general public should know or not, it's just the fact that autotune is becoming so popular thanks to Kanye's album 808s and Heartbreaks. It seems as if EVERYONE who mentions it always says "What's up with Kanye's voice?" and the other person says "autotune". Even though it was formerly a word known by people in the know, thanks to its resurgence, it's starting to be a word familiar to the average pop culture fan.</p>
<p>F kanye.... I dont listen to that crap. And the first time I heard an autotune effect was on that Cher song..whether it was autotune or not idk but the effect was there. I never once heard anyone ask, and nor did I, anything about what was up with Kanye's voice. It's produced - enough said. I've played with sound equipment plenty enough to know that ( I used to run Mackie's for various organizations and have played with Reason and FL studio), I just never researched the diff between a voder and autotune.</p>
