Did you guys regret it? I'm thinking about not going to prom (I think it's a waste of money and I couldn't even attend the after-parties thanks to my protective parents) but I don't want a year or two to come by and be like, "If only I went to prom..."

Was it/Is it a big deal in college? Were you able to forget about not attending the prom?

I went to my senior prom and it was lame. You don't look back on things like that once you are in college. If your friends are going you might as well go though.. what is your reason for not going? If you don't feel like going you really aren't missing out though lol.

I am not going to my own school's prom, which is this Saturday, and I feel no regrets, but I am going to another prom because a friend asked me; when I get asked out, I take it under more consideration than my own prom..

I didn't go. And I hate to say it. But I regret it. Too the point where I'm crying in severe depression? No. But I still yearn for the experience. Just go. It may not be the best thing in the world. But it still is worth going to. Just think, you can't regret going but you can if you don't.

I didn't go because it cost $80 for a ticket and if I was to go with friends, I would have had to pay $50 for a fixed price meal and chipped in about $50 for the limo. That's not counting the dress, shoes, and all the other fixings.

So yeah, no. Total waste and my friends turned it into a drama filled event. My best friend who was my "date" and I had our own alternative prom doing things WE wanted to do in goofy 80s style Goodwill prom outfits on the cheap. I valued that time spent with him much more than I would have shelling out hundreds of dollars for a few hours.

Exactly SilverClover. My parents aren't from the U.S. and they think it's idiotic to spend so much for only 4 hours and that if I decide to go, they'll have to pay $250+ for a dress I'm never going to wear again. Then there's shoes, hair, nails, I mean sheesh. I'm not getting married.

Personally, I don't want to go either. Though I'm getting mix feelings... my friends are going and I keep hearing I'll regret it if I don't go and my fear is that I will regret it. But I never went to the dances at my school and I'm still good. Me + dances = never ever. I don't see the point when the dances suck.

Do I really want to spend $80 on a measely ticket? No. Do I really want to feel the stress of preparing for the prom which is only in 2 weeks? No. Do I want to hang out with my friends? I do that every day. Why do I need to be all dressed up and purty to do that?

Should I go anyways? I really don't know. I have less than a week to decide...

Prom? Damn, that was a while ago; if you're broke, don't go. If you're not, whatever. People stopped talking about prom no more than a week after it happened, so really, it doesn't matter one lick.

Four years later, I'm still glad I didn't go. I hated my high school, and I've never been one for dances, school events, or even socializing in large groups. I would have spent way too much money, and I didn't have anyone to go with anyways.

If anything, it's been a point of conversation here at college, because the majority of people I know went to prom, and almost feel bad for me that I didn't go. I think it's such a waste.

We had a senior grad night at my school that was really fun. It was about the cost of a prom ticket, and there was awesome food all night, bands, activities, games, crafts, carnival stuff, etc. It went all night long and was very memorable to see everyone for the last time.

we had both jr and sr proms. jr prom was amazing, whole getting dressed up for the first time and a great night of dancing. one of my besst hs memories.

sr prom we kind of thought of the actual prom part as an necessary precursor to 3 days in a rented house on the jersey shore. our prom was on a boat that went around ny harbor so most people were outside and the dance floor was tiny. but looking at pictures from preprom and the actual prom with my best friends from hs makes that night perfect in my mind. it was my sr prom and afterprom was to this day the best 3 days of my life.

go, the worst that can happen is that you waste $200 and not have an amazing time. youll never have to wonder what if. idk if youre male or female but if youre a girl save some money and do youre hair, makeup, nails yourself.

I was asked, but just never could really get into the whole thing. My friends begged me to go, but I sad no, and saved myself a couple hundred bucks.

The following monday everyone was complaining about how lame prom was because of teachers/faculty breaking up students because of "inappropriate dancing," and because some prankster pulled the fire alarm (everyone had to wait outside for an hour!) Plus the only drama was about the people who got there stuff stolen or students who were suspended from school because they were WAY to drunk and got caught by the faculty.

Trust me, this is one "once in a lifetime" event you should skip.
