For those who didn't go to their high school prom...

My best friend and I boycotted prom and spent our money on a trip to Maine. Best decision of my life!

geez, i did not spend nearly enough on prom to afford a trip to maine with the same amount of money...especially considering the distance from your florida to maine....

Road Trips > Proms

I went entirely by myself (no date, no group of friends either) and then sat around by myself the whole night. I don't think I would have missed out on anything staying home.

The only thing that's stopping me from not going (I'm still undecided) is that people won't leave me alone about it.

i didnt go to my prom and i dgaf.

I think its good to go just for the experience. i didnt like prom but i would've regretted it if I didnt go. I enjoyed the afterprom alot. Our school district borrowed an amusement park for the whole night until 5-6 in the morning. Short lines, free, free food, prizes etc it was amazing.

I've been to 4 proms this year and attended 2 last year. Anyway, I think you should go. Why? because if you're thinking about it then you are already regretting it. So you spend a little money to follow the American tradition...who cares? Go for it.

Reading through the posts, I begin to wonder how many people blow off prom as a waste of money when in actuality, the only thing that kept them from going was the lack of guts to find a date (or for girls, not being able to get a guy.) Or lack of social skills (seriously, to the guy who said he went alone, sat at a table by himself for the whole thing and was bored - if that's the attitude to take to prom, of course it's going to be a disappointment! no matter how well the prom was organized) And to the guys sitting in front of their computers and playing Mario Kart Melee or whatever instead of going to prom - you have to come out of hiding sometime. Yes, college parties are better, but prom is not a college party.. it's a totally different atmosphere and purpose - it's more formal, commemorative, and celebratory.

Just because others don't regret not going doesn't mean prom isn't worth going to. You'll never miss what you never had in the first place. Some people have no regrets about skipping prom because they don't know what they missed. Even if people don't talk about it months after, it is a life milestone.

I decided to go to prom. It wasn't like "OMG THIS WAS TRULY AMAZING!!" but it was still nice. After prom, I hanged out with my friends and had a sleepover. So yeah, all in all, it was a fun night.

It's prom. Get a date and go. You don't get another chance to go to your senior prom, and while by the looks of previous posts it appears to be pretty vogue to hate on prom on CC, CC isn't exactly the best resource to be asking. After all, this is the site where fun and social lives go to die. Even if you hate it, at least you'll be able to say "Yeah, I remember my senior prom. It sucked!"

Come on, guys. It's prom. Nobody rips on 6th grade graduation or NHS Awards Ceremonies, give prom a chance. I know it's unfashionable, but sometimes the things that everybody else thinks is fun can actually be fun! Even if you "don't like to dance" ("have never touched a woman"), go anyway! Hang out in the corner and be awkward. Social lives are important. You know how normal people hate studying but they do it anyway because they know it's good for them? Follow their lead and socialize. We can't be nerds forever! So go dance poorly! Nobody cares that you're a bad dancer; everybody's a bad dancer! Viva la prom!

prom is over rated... trust me!

..but don't take my word for it, go and see for yourself... the only fun thing i liked about it was the afterparty... and you can't even go to that so... :(

your not gonna miss much, you can party ALL you want in college ;)

oh i read that you already went, lol, nvm my last post then :)

Our prom was $100. We went out to a diner instead.

^ smart choice!

I went to both junior and senior proms. Junior prom I went with a guy friend because my boyfriend at the time was not a student at my high school...didn't go so well hehe. Senior year I went with my girlfriends...it was pretty lame. The fun part was dressing up and eating out together, but the actual prom itself was kind of lame.

I told myself that if I found a dress that I fell in love with that I'd go, but instead I ended up spening my prom night doing homework. I don't regret it. Grades are more important than spending a night with drunk people.

I can't dance AT ALL and I think it is gross to see all the ghetto girls grinding on each other and pulling a Britney Spears every time they decide to drop to the floor. I also didn't have a date or many friends going, so if I would have gone I would have felt like I was imposing on some friends. I wouldn't have been able to stay out for after parties, so there wouldn't be much to do. Really, I'm not into that type of stuff. I rather spend that money on my vacation.

"I think it is gross to see all the ghetto girls grinding on each other"

oh god... this wont end well

Didn't go to prom because it doesn't exist here.

Alright people...you are all nuts. Seriously, just go. Like a few others have said, it's a milestone whether you end up enjoying it or not. High school only happens once and since you all spent the past 4 years self-studying for AP Calc and Master Level Physics, it gives you more of a reason to go out and be a normal human being.

I've been to formals I loved and formals I hated. I didn't know how to dance when I was a sophomore, but after dancing and dancing I learned. Hell, I'm still not great, but it's about being in the moment for once instead of always looking forward (yes wishing your life away can be a bad thing).

"Will I regret not going?" Yes. Now go get your tickets.
