For those who got 5 on AP Euro exam, plz read

What review books did you use?

if you took the class, what textbook did your class use?

What were your studying techniques/habits like?

thanks, i appreciate it.

me too if anyone chould help

I got a 5. I'm sorry to say that I didn't really study all that much...

Mostly my preparation came from my fabulous teacher, who was always very thorough in her lectures. Sorry, I can't remember what textbook we used. To be honest, I didn't study much outside of class, besides reading the chapters and doing the assigned homework, then discussing it in class. About a month before the test my friends and I stepped it up a notch and started meeting about once a week to go over old tests in a College Board-released book. And I also would regularly go over timelines of different periods, which was helpful since the Euro History test is very much centered on the sequence of events and how they are connected.

Most of all, don't cram. I cried on the day of the test because I slept in when I had been planning to do some last minute studying before heading to the test center. As it turned out, I obviously didn't need the extra cramming after all - and friends of mine who stayed up late studying the night before did poorly on their tests.

same......
I got a 5 and I never used any outside study guides, I just happen to love history.

study technique: Read Modern European History or REA the night before. Cram like crazy.

anyone heard of Western Civilzation by Jackson Spielvogel?

thats the book by school uses

how good is it?

should i get another one to study for the test?

I got a 5 on European History, and I used REA. It's helpful for both AP Euro and US!

Jason, our school used to use Spielvogel, until the district decided to switch to a book about 2 or 3 reading levels lower. Our teacher was not involved in the decision; she calls our new book a "picture book" and gives us photocopies from Spielvogel. Comparatively, Spielvogel seems very well-written, informative, and organized.

However, you may want to buy a practice book for a concise review and the practice tests.

I got a 5. I didn't really use a textbook, just studied the Princeton Review book.

howd you prep for the essays? i know the DBQ is just understanding, but remembering enough facts to write the other essays seems tough

I don't think I did so well on the essays, so take this with a grain of salt. Mainly I just remembered the main concepts and when I started outlining, facts and ideas came to me.

However, I'm pretty sure I scored very well on the MC (I was pretty sure on about 95%+ of the MC.)

I did use Spielvogel a bit as well (it was our textbook), but honestly, I think I could have gotten a 5 without it. Although it's certainly a great book and you should read it if you have the time ;).

My AP Euro teacher is trying to convince me to take the AP exam, but I'm so freaked out about it. I don't remember a lot of stuff from the beginning of the year...so I don't know how I'm being expected to know over 500 years worth of Kings, wars, etc. He told me that I'd be a fool if I didn't take the exam...but I honestly have no idea if I should take it.

go for it smurfette

Definitely read Modern European History- good for the "big picture"

My class used Western Heritage which has a website with quizzes for the chapters. The website is on the cover of the book.

My advice is not to use the textbook to study for the AP test, my teacher even agreed, you will get too bogged down with the details.

I keep hearing about an REA book. What is it?

abena-

We're using the Western Heritage too. I did the online quizzes and I didn't feel that it helped much. I think the book is too dry and that my district should've ordered the McKay book.

Rozwallace-
REA is a review book for the Ap exam, kind of like Princeton Review, but by a different company.

REA..comes with a CD too

this is a probably a stupid question but....is the AP euro exam from the Renaissance on?

I got a 5.

I took copious notes on the Western Heritage and started studying in late march. I used the PR book, the REA book, and one I had to buy for class. REA was most like the exam in difficulty, and probably harder than the actual (It helped that one of the FRQ's I had done for a class assignement.) After all of that a 5 was easy.

I used Baron's which was pretty good
