leaning towards Yale right now... but MIT's CPW (yes yes im going to MIT's CPW to visit Harvard) and Bulldogs Days will determine it.... Yale seems SO much more fun... not to mention you guys rock!

I got into Harvard EA, and I found out about Yale today. I was ecstatic, and told my friend who just said, "So, you got into Harvard." It was so anticlimatic. I really like both schools, though. But a lot of people are pulling me towards Harvard.

I'm leaning heavily towards Yale. The people and the atmosphere just seem more me, and they're definitely stronger in theatre. It's hard to turn down that Harvard name, but I just can't see myself there as well as Yale.

First, you should definitely call ahead to the admissions offices to let them know you're visiting. They can set you up with students to show you around and classes to attend, and otherwise be helpful.

Second (and this may sound strange coming from a parent), spend as much time as you can during your visit without your dad. It's hard enough to try to get to know a school in only a day or two visit - it's harder when you're trooping around with a parent. When my son was visiting schools, I found it was best just to dump him on the campus and tell him he was on his own for the day (or however long we had to visit). We'd just arrange a time and place to meet up. Then he was off and I'd wander on my own as well.

Ultimately, the goal is to picture yourself as a student at the school and get a feel for how you think you'd like it. The more you can pretend you're already a student (hanging out with other students, spending some time in a few classes, checking out the athletic facilities or orchestra or school newspaper or whatever EC interests you have), the more likely you'll be able to get a sense of what it's like.

I wish I had the money to visit both. I'm going to visit Yale during bulldog days... and I'm still trying to arrange a Harvard visit. Lindsey, are you going to one of those two schools for sure?

I talked to my gc and one teacher today (told others but didn't really have full discussion). They both said that Yale seems like a better fit for me. I'm also going to talk with another teacher soon; he went to Harvard. I'll still visit Harvard sometime (much earlier than the official day, though), just to make sure. Who knows, Harvard just may blow me away! I got my Harvard package today, and it was so amazing. There must have been like 50 sheets of paper with so much info that I felt like I was already there. I was starting to get excited, so I was like, s***! You can't do this to me; this makes the decision so much harder! I'll be studying these brochure-stuff for most of the weekend. Tough decision, but we are incredibly lucky to have the choice.

David - I'd say there's a 90% chance of me going to one of the two. I still haven't heard from Princeton or Amherst, which could be contenders if they accepted me. I made arrangements today to visit Swarthmore for Ride the Tide, which I think would be a good alternative if, once I revisit Harvard and Yale next week, I decide I just can't go to either for some reason.

I got in to both as well. I applied to Yale EA, because at the time, without having visited any of my schools, I felt Yale was a better fit. In addition, I had heard a lot of negative stuff about Harvard, especially about the quality of its undergraduate education. Then, earlier last month, I was finally able to visit all my schools, and I have to say, Harvard just blew me away. Maybe because I had a fantastic host or maybe because I visited Yale the day before spring break...either way, I'm now slightly leaning toward Harvard. I was most impressed with the Harvard student body. Plus, Harvard gave me an awesome financial package, which I think would be hard for Yale to beat (haven't received a finaid package from Yale yet). I will definitely try to go to Bulldog Day though. I think I just need to be reminded of why I fell in love with Yale in the first place. :)

cncm, contrary to what the ivies publish, they will match another ivy's financial aid offer. So, if bulldog days turns your heart back to yale, but still doesn't offer you an aid offer as good as harvard's offer, go to the yale financial aid office and tell them you will have to choose harvard unless they match the aid. It should work :)

i thought i was really really sure about where i wanted to go (yale) and then i got into harvard too, i too had heard not-so-nice things about their undergrad program but now, i dont know, maybe a visit will change my mind? got into princeton too, this is seriously such a hard choice
