I invite those, who have hard time deciding between UCB and UCLA, especially for POL S major, let's discuss our future possibilities assuming that we end up in UCLA or UCB

Anyone????

im having a hard time... but im an econ major :(

i never actually thought i'd get into both. id pick berkk in a second if i didnt get deferred until spring.

At whatever school I choose, I'll be majoring in Philosophy (which, I believe, both schools have great departments for)--though the chances of me switching out of it into something a bit... easier are high. :(

UCLA: I live about 45 minutes away (in OC), so I can go home whenever I want, especially on the weekends. That way, my life will probably stay exactly the same--hang out with the few friends I currently have and I won't miss out on my mom's cooking. The only difference is that I'll be livng away from home thing since I plan on dorming. What sucks is that this will probably lead me to the path of being stuck in southern California for the rest of my life, haha. Though I'm not sure if that's a bad or a good thing.

UCB: I was there for a few days last summer and I loved the weather up there. They have a crazy amount of trees compared to where I live and it seems a lot cooler (temperature-wise) and overcast there--which I love. Based on some assumptions I've made using other people's impressions of NorCal, it seems a lot less pretenious than LA and more diverse (weirdos and whatnot, I guess), so I'll probably have an easy time fitting in there. Now for the bad: I know I'll end up getting extremely homesick and when I'm not feeling comfortable in a new place, I usually turn everything else into hell for myself.

ucla is going to be much easier, if you want to have a school kick your ass, go to berkeley, if you want a school thats easy (compared to cal) than go to ucla, my sis took one of her pre med classes at ucla and she said its so much easier than her pre med classes at Berkeley and that was an ochem class lol

More please!!!!!!!!

wow.. interesting thread... nice discussion... anyone else?

I got in for Spring 2007 @ Cal...so my situation may be a little different, but here I go. My heart has been set on UCLA since I started @ my CCC, but I don't know what to do anymore. UCLA's rich & diverse campus is exactly the type of environment I want...the cafetaria food rocks, the weather's great, and LA is a big city - with premiers happening every other month, the beach a few minutes away, and the abundant "urban" life to fulfill my guilty pleasures every now and then, it's PERFECT. But Berkeley has that academic reputation that WOWs everyone...I mean, there's UC-D, UC-SD, UC-LA, and all...but there's ONE Cal, you know? And their school spirit is like crazy! sigh I don't know...it's kind of close to home for me, too, and I know WAY too many people there...it's like an extension of my high school district, really, and I'm all about new experiences. AHHH. And what I do for the 6 months I'll be out of school if I choose to go to Cal? I'm so torn in between.

I would chose UCLA if I needed to wait for another semester. I have both schools for Fall 06 and that's makes me feel very unfortunate.... I want to be at UCLA, and do not want to miss this "historical" chance to be a UCB student....

Go to UCLA.

Wrathletik, may I ask why you're recommending both haybaxt and me to choose UCLA over UCB? You seem very agitated by our indecisiveness...Keep in mind that we all worked very hard to be where we are now. I think it's only right that we're taking our time, given that the decision we have to make is a difficult one. Both of them are such great schools...

Bokchoi, I totally agree with you!!!

I was referring to haybaxt. I've read his/her posts and he/she seems to lean towards UCLA. There is a reason for that. Go where you see yourself being, what feels right for you.

I was just being sarcastic to you though, but not in a mean way.

YOU need to make the decision...it seems like most of you have already subconciously decided on where to go and are just asking people to solidify that decision...

I don't know where to go...

pick berkeley...

I don't know which one to pick, either.

Cal: Applied Math
UCLA: Math/Econ

Hey Rob_Rob... you have the same majors (both math) with mine and same situation... awwww I don't know how to choose either....
Cal is #1 for math but I want to live in LA and attend UCLA (I really like the Bruin Spirit GO Bruins) but still I don't know how to choose; not to mention that USC engineering is #9 in the nation as well and I want to attend USC too (the only thing that sucks is the HIGH COST)... awww this is not even a dilemma, trilemma indeed. :)

If you want to live in LA and attend UCLA, do it! Don't worry about rankings. If you ever goto grad school, it's not going to be a big deal where you went. Personally, I wouldn't want to spend all my money at USC for undergrad when you can just goto UCLA for much, much cheaper in a nicer area of LA.

How many of you are undecided because of Berkeley's superior academic reputation? How big of a role is that playing in your decision-making process?
