for those who have taken the AP comparative or AP U.S government exam.

Hi~

I'm just wondering how the test is, is there a special way to answer your free response questions? I have no idea on how to prepare because my AP U.S/Comparative government class is just like a study hall, lots of kids is not taking the exam and does not care.

I dont know what study guide I should get for AP U.S government

and for AP comparative government, we are studying off from Ethel Wood's studyguide, is that enough?

Cn you please tell me what I should know to get 5 on the exam?

in my school we put comparative and U.S together into one class, so one semester per course..

PLease help me!!I feel desperate LOL~

Heyy… I am pretty sure that Ethel Woods’ studyguide is the most recommended for AP Gov classes. Just keep reading it and you’ll be fine.

PS: DO you know that if you are taking AP Government, does that count as one AP or two APs?

^ thank you. ^^

thats one AP class in my school, but its 2 AP exam I need to take, because first semester we did u.s gov and 2nd semester we are doing comparative.

I’m just freaking out cuz my teacher did not give out any strategies and I’m wondering on the exam if we need to answer question in a certain format…

and i forgot all the things from U.S gov already!

Welcome! And its the same with me… but I am taking it next year, so I don’t know how it will be set up yet.

To study US Gov, the most popular choice is Princeton Review and for Comp Gov, it’s Ethel Woods.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/201793-consolidated-book-suggestions-ap.html</a></p>

Hi Hi!
But some says for US Gov, Princeton Review is nonsense and useless.
Some says Barron’s is better, some says REA is better.
So anyone has taken this exam, please advise.

Thanks a lot.

Yeah so with US Govt, being really good at APUSH is pretty useful, last year there was an essay that was basically USH knowledge.

I used Barrons and REA combined. Barrons because of the detail and REA because of its brief overview. So I guess this:

If you’re teacher is good: use PR
If you’re teacher is not good: use Barrons (and maybe REA combined)
If you’re short on time: REA (because its short and too the point, but it may be a little short on details for the mc and essays)

Yeah I think the general consensus is that Ethel Woods for Comp Govt is really good, although I’m slightly annoyed that it doesn’t have an index.

For Govt free response in general, you should just write down the facts. Answer the question, there’s no need to do like you did in USH and Eng Lang (of course there are people that do write big long essays, but IMO that’s a waste of time. I didn’t write big long essays and still got a 5 with short and simple statements).
If one of the questions asks
a. Define the term “linkage institution”
b. Give an example of a linkage institution
c. How has government limited the growth and development of linkage institutions.

Then just write:
a. <insert definition=“” here=“” using=“” a=“” complete=“” sentence=“”>
b. <insert example=“” using=“” a=“” complete=“” sentence=“”>
c. Write and give examples, most likely will be a paragraph.</insert></insert>

So really the essays are not at all essays, they’re more like AP Bio style essays.

^ thank you sooo much! I guess I will buy Barrons then. the exam is 3 weeks away. I guess I need to start cramming now.

thank you for the example for essays, I was worried cuz in AP euro we have to write in a format, and I dont know if gov have these requirements too.

omg I feel like running out of time!

thank you~

Thank you gblob :)

Thanks gblob331 =DDD
