For Those Who Have Ucb But Will Go To UCLA

What would be the best argument to convince someone to sacrifies UCB for UCLA???

Just go to UCLA already. It seems like you want to, just go for it.

I don't think you need any arguments for that. If this makes an arguement, how about the best argument to convince someone to sacrifies UCLA for UCB?
I just think people go by their hearts

I want to have somehow valid reason so that I can sacrifies UCB without any guilt..

haybaxt..don't do it!!

Berkeley is the best...the best UC and the #1 public university in the country..not to mention, it's world famous!! Seriously, get some perspective....after you graduate, Berkeley will sound SOOO MUCH COOLER than UCLA..

There are many reasons why one would choose UCLA over Cal. They have different atmospheres; they are in different cities; each has its own diverse group of students. First of all, visit both campuses. Secondly, decide what your goals are with school--if you care a lot about education itself for instance, look at the diff professors...

And seriously, UCLA poli sci is a super well known department. Look at the CA State Legislature and how many of them have degrees in poli sci from UCLA. I don't think it's wrong to pick UCLA over Cal--UCLA is even harder to get into now as a freshmen--it's based on the individual.

^^ agree.

Even I'm holding off on my berkeley sir until I see the campus and talk to some berkeley folk.

UCSD is my other choice.

It wont matter if Berkeley is the #1 public university in the country if you hate the area and it makes your grades lower than they could have been somewhere else. Go where you feel you are better fit to succeed.

look...UCLA, UCSD, UCB....three are great schools....you are hard pressed to find three PUBLIC schools of this caliber in the same state....each has its strengths and weaknesses....rankings fluctuate and will go up or down...and it's mostly based on seniority anyway...so pick the one you want to go to.

I would want to hear from those who have to chose between UCB and UCLA, If you have no UCB then there is nothing to lose...
Those who do not have UCB tend to claim that UCLA is equal to UCB, those who have UCB prone to say that UCB>UCLA

I got accepted to both...so did Matt30.

I was accepted into both and I chose Berkeley..

I chose Berkeley but can easily see why someone would choose UCLA.

See, both of you chose Berkeley....

The issue, haybaxt, is me, you and tallkell are not the same person!

Berkeley is a great school, don't get me wrong.

But it doesn't really carry that much more cache than UCLA.

Anyway, I chose UCLA over Cal, and haven't regretted it once.

Hey UCLAri!!!! Yay! THat is nice to hear!

My inner voice tell me to choose UCLA more than UCB; but most people who got in both normally choose UCB for its pure reputation or something... come on...be a BRUIN, don't be a Bear!!!!! Am i convincing myself to choose UCLA; yeah! :)

For all the ppl who got in both UCB and UCLA, please give me your STRONGEST argument why you choose UCLA or UCB?

Both schools are excellent, it's all about personal preference. If you like the beach, Southern California and warm weather pick UCLA. If you like Berkeley's campus and the grungy vibe pick UCB. I know I am making generalizations but really "to each his own," don't pick it on prestige, pick the school that you can imagine feeling comfortable in. No one can make this decision for you.

P.S Berkeley is my dream, but I already know I love the campus and the atmosphere (hippy-ish) plus I prefer colder weather.

I chose UCB because (1) the students, (2) the professors (many more than UCLA), (3) the emphasis on academics, (4) the City of Berkeley and the area nearby campus, (5) the campus, (6) the Bay Area, (7) higher endowment than UCLA, and last and least, the ratings that put it as the top public university in the country.

Overall, I think the area (Bay Area vs. LA) is very important to consider. You can find your niche, etc. at both schools unquestionably. But one is in LA and the other is in the Bay Area--I'm becoming a big Bay Area fan.
