For those who scored 800's and used Barrons on the Math 2...

Hi, whoever has used Barrons for the Math 2 subject test and scored an 800, what were your scores on Barrons?

I understand that achieving a score of 650+ can earn a 800 on the real thing, but my question is, when you took for Barron's tests, did you guys actually finish the tests?

I score in the 600's (today I scored a 690), but I omit a good number of questions (about 10-15). Did you guys experience the same thing? I fear that, because I could not finish a Barron's test, I will experience a similar situation on the real thing.

Please let me know, thanks!

I was scoring low 700’s, with maybe about 2 omitted.

Yea, but has anyone omitted the amount I do (10-15), and achieved an 800?

10-15 sounds a little too many to be omitting. I would say about about 5 questions per test are irrelevant. Leaving 10 blank is okay, but pushing it. 15 seems like a little too much.

@ShutUpUPlay2Much when are you taking the test? This month?

@ACTsecrets Yes, I understand it is too much. I really have to work on omitting less problems. Any suggestions on how I can do that? I would really appreciate it.

@risubu Yes I am.

At this point, I would suggest dropping the Barrons prac. tests and do a more…similar one. Like a test from Sparknotes or from the official book from CB. Try look for the Official Study for the SAT subject tests at your library. CB also has a book just for the Math Levels I and II, which has two tests for both tests. Try looking for that too.

Thanks risubu. I was going to take an Official Math II from CB today anyway.

I actually did surprisingly well. I got an 800 but with a raw score of 44 (just made it with 4 wrong and one omit). I am going to work hard this week to make sure I could get an 800 with a little cushion.

One question, are the CB tests in the book easier than the real thing? I read that somewhere and would like to confirm this.

On another note, I took a Math I and earned a 790 (2 wrong). Hopefully I can make the cushion for this one as well.

Thanks for your responses!

The tests in the CB are previously administered tests. Difficulty does depend on the test, but the ones in the book are your best bet for an accurate testing. In my opinion, the tests are just right!

The easiest way to avoid omitting problems is being able to identify what type of question it is. Oftentimes in standardized testing, questions are disguised, but if you can distill a question to its essential concept(s), it becomes more manageable.

I used a bunch of different books for math 2 (PR, Kaplan, Sparknotes, Barron’s) and I would highly recommend Barron’s.

I thought the actual test was generally only slightly easier than Barron’s. For reference, I got 700-750s on Barron’s and 800 on the real thing.

Scored 800 in math II and physics with zero preparation (with a Barron book of physics in fact, but I just run through the topics I never touched before).
I think the only thing you have to do is to be careful in traps, like area you have to paint in a room perhaps require you to neglect the area of the floor, etc.
