For those who’ve stayed at The Lorenzo: How common is it to not have the whole unit filled?

I’m in a 2 bed 2 bath and my rent is $800/month. I’m taking over someone’s lease that’s why the rent is cheaper than the current rates.

I’m moving-in in August and the persons lease i’m taking over and his roommates are all moving out by July, so as of now, there hasn’t been any roommates assigned and I’m the only one in it.

I asked someone in management about the roommate situation but I got a bunch of weird answers.

  1. Everyone is moving out by July and even though I’m taking over someone’s lease they said “Since I won’t be arriving until August, placement for my particular bed space is still to be determined”… what does that mean?? i’ve already singed the lease for that specific unit and they told me to make sure to get renters insurance for that unit #. could they assign me to a different unit? if they do, they better not raise the rent.

  2. They said I’m in one of the smaller 2x2 units and availability for these units are limited. If I want to do roommate matching I’d have to upgrade to a bigger unit for $1050/month. Since management said I’m in a smaller unit and availability is limited, I’m hoping that it won’t get filled.

I’m not expecting to have the whole unit to myself, I just hope no one gets placed in my bedroom and I basically have a private bedroom for a fraction of the cost.

What do y’all think?

They are going to try to optimize and put people together. Having one person in multiple units is way less efficient for them. That’s why they aren’t formally assigning you yet, they are trying to meld people together. So I would say unlikely to have unit to yourself, but if you do, see it as a great bonus. Just don’t count on it.

@CADREAMIN i think im locked in my specific unit, though (at least i hope so). would they actually move me into a different unit? im taking over someone’s lease and i signed an “As-Is Addendum”. i already know the unit #, all i have to do is pick up the key and move-in. if they move me into another unit i dont know how the “as-is addendum” agreement i signed would play out.

yeah, im not expecting to have the unit to myself, just wondering and hoping that no one gets placed in my bedroom so it ends up being a private lol

but what do you make of their weird answer they gave me about the roommate matching? i dont understand why i’d have to “upgrade” and pay more just for that

Sounds silly to me to pay more monthly or that they only match in the more expensive units. Hopefully you have a private room! But $800/month around USC is not a bad price at all. And Lorenzo has some perks.
