For those who were accepted--Will you be attending?

Another thing would be weather (specifically winters); I haven’t even seen snow in real life before :(

Also, does it rain a lot in Ann Arbor? I sorta detest the rain haha

Guys, just get off his back, his family thinks of Ann Arbor like Detroit. End of Story.
If you want to prove that ann arbor’s safer just give simple crime rates:

I got in, but I can go to Minnesota or Wisconsin for less than half the price so I definitely won’t go unless they give me merit aid. They don’t give much merit aid, right?

I got into mich nursing (oos), but it all pretty much depends on the money…loved Ann Arbor when we visited this summer though!
still waiting on UVA, UDel, TCNJ, UMiami, and PSU…and accepted to CWRU, Pitt, and Nova
I have no idea where I’m going to end up next year, and its killing me.

Will really come down to dollars. Son is also accepted to MSU Honors College and will compete for their Alumni Distinguished Scholarship, which gives up to a full ride (tuition, room & board, and fees). If that or something close to it comes through, and UM doesn’t offer something in the same ballpark, it will be a no-brainer.

Most likely, but I definitely need to hear back from my other schools and receive financial aid/scholarship information. Even if I don’t end up going, I will always say, “GO BLUE!”

“Also, does it rain a lot in Ann Arbor? I sorta detest the rain haha”

Don’t worry about the rain. It’s not unusual to not see rain here for over three months in a row! You know why? When the temperature dips below 32 degrees it turns to snow. Geez. …

“Another thing would be weather (specifically winters); I haven’t even seen snow in real life before”

Seriously e5volcano. You better think long and hard about attending Michigan. It seems you might have some major issues that would make it difficult to enjoy your time here. I know you live in LA, but not ever seeing snow before (look at the San Gabriel mountains on a clear day) tells me that you are going to be in for a major shock when the weather turns in the fall. I highly suggest you go visit a cold climate sometime before you make up your mind.

Wow. I don’t understand why y’all are being so tough on e5volcano. His family has expressed concerns I think any family would, given he wants to attend a school across the country from his home. Frankly, with this, I’m not worried about the safety of U Michigan, rather the friendliness of some in its community…

It will come down to financial aid for me, my family has absolutely no money to spare.

I don’t blame many for the reactions on this thread. So many East Coast and West Coast residents think they live in utopia and that the Midwest is somewhat lacking. As an outsider, I also had such an impression of the US until I moved to the US. Of course, those preceptions are competely incorrect. The Midwest is in fact just as welcoming, cultured and pleasant as either coast.

^True, but I personally find it AMAZING how many students apply to UMich, wait with baited breath, bargain with whatever they call God in hopes of acceptance, and THEN begin the litany of questions and ire over location, weather, and financial aid ;)

I may be a bit old-school, but I simply did not encourage my son to apply to schools that he hadn’t visited the year prior or at the beginning of senior year. That meant when he identified schools to which he wanted to apply we made road trips and cross country flights, from NYC to Vancouver. I know it’s expensive to do it that way, but it’s equally expensive to discover you picked the wrong school in terms of “fit” and I truly don’t believe you can identify fit without standing on the $200,000+ soil that will be your home for 4 or more years!

E5Volcano, it’s tough when your parents don’t want you to go, so I realize they may not have offered to take you on a pre-tour. But please do visit as soon as you are able, and take advantage of the overnight pairing programs that go along with campus day.
I predict it will take you about 5 minutes to discover for yourself what a beautiful (although weather-battered) college town Ann Arbor is – or 5 minutes to identify that Michigan isn’t your speed. There are often very cheap weekend flights between Detroit Metro Airport and LAX for a shade over $200. Good luck with your decision!

Well I am going to visit during Campus Day in March, hopefully that can give me a taste of Michigan

99.9% sure im going to umich

I don’t think I’ll be attending, since I’ve been accepted to Georgia Tech.
But I’ll see how the financial aid cookie crumbles and take another look at my options. UMich is a great option and I’m glad I applied, but I don’t know that I’d be able to afford it without some help.

Oh, I wish I lived in Michigan. What an easy decision I’d have daydream
