I emailed the undergrad admissions office this:

"Dear Sir or Madam,

On the UIUC website it says applicants who complete their applications
and requirements by Nov. 15 will be notified of their decision by Dec.
15. I was wondering if all applicants between Sept. 1 and Nov. 15 are
treated equally or do those who apply very early have a slight advantage
over those who apply closer to Nov. 15? Also, are all priority
decisions sent in December or is it possible for some who apply very
early to be notified of their decision much earlier such as in September
or October?

Thank you."

And got this reply:

"All students applying from Sept.1-Nov.15 are seen equally. One good
part of applying earlier is you have more time to get all your materials
in our office and assure you are complete by November 15, but it will
not increase you chances for admissions. No one will hear a decision
until December 15. It may not be a final decision. Students may hear
an Admit or Deny decision, but many will also be Deferred. Deferred
students will hear a final decision along with all applicants that
submit their materials between November 16-January 2, on March 1,2007.
These are the only two dates decisions will be posted on. The only
exception to this rule is for talent-based majors within the college of
Fine and Applied Art who must submit a portfolio or audition. These
students, regardless of if they apply September 1 or January 2, will not
be notified of a decision until March 15, when all talent-based reviews
will be completed.

Yes... it's true! Unfortuently, I'm dying to find out as well. But I'm not sure about what they said about applying earlier not necessarily helping you, because they still have rolling admissions?! So I would assume that the earlier you apply= more space in school/major. But apparently they changed it this year to alleviate stress and confusion for applicants. Seems like it's working??????? Argh. But good luck :)

That stinks. I'm so anxious to find out. I too wrote up my app right away and had it done September 7th. What happened to rolling admissions? I thought usually they started to tell right away.

... i retook my ACT this saturday...and applied the 10th. I had been hearing from everyone to apply as soon as humanely possible... But i could have waiting til i heard back!( around the twenty-eighth)...rawr.
My decision says 'pending'...
And like...when i get them back, can i send them in, still? Will they even bother to look?

Thanks, Thanks alot
Now that i wont get a decision till then, I have to take the SATII, apply to tons of other colleges/ write more essays, etc.
Thanks for hogging the decisions UIUC.

^ why do that to yourself? What if something you sent gets lost or somehow overlooked in that office? I'd get your applications in as early as possible. That was my one regret when i applied as a freshman, i might have gotten in if i hadn't mailed part of my application out a week after the priority date, i just didnt take it seriously at all.

this must be a pretty new policy. i think my sister was in much earlier than december last year.

Well, I took krbarrett's advice and applied to one other school, my super-safety Purdue, which just accepted me (only 1 week after I applied). This makes me a little happier/saner but I'm still ticked off about this. I really wouldn't mind attending Purdue if it wasn't for the fact that I have the 3rd or 4th best EE school in the country only 3 hours away from me at in-state price. Why did they have to go and do this? !@#$ I'm still hoping that the person who replied to my email didn't know what they were talking about. Sending out all the decisions together just doesn't make any sense for a school that handles 20,000 applications a year.

The website says that if you submit within the priority period they will let you know BY December 15th, so maybe the person that replied misinterpreted your question or didn't make it clear enough. Also, they may let you know online that you're in and not let you know officially until December. I guess nobody really knows, my college counseler said they were switching up things this year (like being reconsidered for other majors if rejected) so maybe they won't let you know until later, but i hope not.

What DCB07 says about official decisions could ring true. Two years ago, my friend got a letter from his specific program, welcoming him and giving out information, before he was notified online or through the mail of his acceptance to the school.

So mayhaps it'll work out that way? Or...mayhaps they will have already made the decisions, and won't release them til December. Which, of course, would suck major ammounts...but at least it will still have helped to get information in early.

I just know that, when i check online, it says 'decision pending,'...while previously it had said 'application complete- ready for review'

Im guessing they are waiting until dec 15 so that they dont have to reject students who are obviously more qualified when majors begin to fill up, but now whats the advantage of being in EARLY showing that you actually CARE... grr
