For Unc Students Only

Please post how you found out you were accepted and when. was it email or letter? did you get ll or emails saying merry christmas and check your email? if cloying is correct and the email means something, then how do they sent it out to certain applicants and not the others?

i want to know the same thing

I'm not a student, but my best guess is that it means nothing more than what it's meant to mean-- a happy holiday/merry christmas/seasons greeting card/email. I suspect they send one to everybody who has sent in an application, or expressed interest. Didn't someone say on another thread that her son received one, and he never turned in the application? He expressed interest early on, but in the end, he never applied. He got one, so what does that tell you? I think it's just a seasons greeting card; it's a nice gesture, and it also serves to keep UNC in the forefront of your mind over the holidays. I wouldn't attach any more meaning to it than that. You guys need to relax. While it would be great to have a crystal ball, you'll find out soon enough.

Happy Holidays! (And that doesn't mean anything, except have a happy holiday season with your family and friends, plus it gave me an excuse to say this.) :)

Likely letters mean something certainly, but I applied regular decision so mine said something along the lines of "We will invite you to Explore Carolina in April..." and obviously they wouldn't invite me to something down there without accepting me.

I don't know if seasons greetings means anything, that just kind of sounds like they're being polite.

as a mom and an adult, i have to say that some of you kids are rather condensing to others and there is not need. let others think or feel the way the want. at the ripe age of 17 or 18, you really should not preach to others about relaxing. cause the truth is if you post on this site you are not relaxed. you are as worried or curious as the rest of us and you could show a little sensitivity to your possible classmates.

I agree with the relax sentiment. I'd just take this whole college admissions process and put it in a box for a week or two and enjoy your time off from school. :) Things are going to be so hectic after New Year's; use this time to decompress and try not to worry about the greeting card thing. (I wish UNC had never sent them honestly...it's almost an unfair invasion into what should be a much needed break from the stress of senior year.)

Agree with heathergee that likely letters actually do mean something, but--yeah-- I don't think seasons greetings emails mean anything more than seasons greetings.

2007mom: Not sure if your post was meant for me, but I'm not a student, nor am I young (well, only in my mind!). My suggestion to relax was in the same spirit as ldmom's above-- not condescending in the least-- just a suggestion to use the holidays to take a break from all this, from school, from applications, and try to create a stress-free holiday for yourselves--and, yes-- relax. You will know the answer in a few weeks, or less, and-- truly-- no one here can tell you whether you'll be accepted or not. It's all just speculation at this point and a fun exercise, I guess, but no one who posts here knows any more than you do about your status. If you received a likely letter, or you got a notice about a scholarship, then (at this point) that's your best indication that you'll be accepted. Otherwise, you just have to wait. I sure hope Santa is good to you all, though! ;)

Haha if that was directed toward me 2007mom, I got into UNC half a year ago, I'm not worried about anything. I just still visit this site to help out others since I remember how much I freaked out during the process.

hey i applied EA and last year they posted it online for me, and it was this letter saying like congrats your accepted and stuff and then a couple weeks later, i got something in the mail which was the exact same letter.

swim4china89, when did they post it online? around jan 5th..? Did they post it online earlier than you expected or earlier than they had posted they would. Because it says Jan. 31st (the latest, I'm assuming)...but do you think it could come as early as the beginning of jan?

My acceptance letter was posted online on January 5th (last year). They posted it online earlier than I thought they would and earlier than they'd said they would... I think decisions could definitely be online around the same time this year. Good luck! : )

yeah they posted it earlier than the 31st for me. im not sure the exact date but it was after winter break so yeah, it could be online, again, good luck and hope to se eyou on campus next year!

what did the letter look like? big or small? like i know generally big=good small=bad but like georgetown and some other schools send out all small letters for some reason

I don't actually remember... I think it was kind of fat. Ha. Anyone else remember?

It was a thick packet. But if they're inviting you to something like scholarship it can be small, so who knows. :)

it was definitely like a big packet but i dont remember it being all that thick. definitely not like a small letter envelope though
