For Upper Classmen: ** Choosing courses **

tetrahedr0n, I'm glad you told me that. I was worried that I wouldn't get it because my orientation isn't until June 11th (first one is the 9th), but you didn't go until mid-summer.

I have another question. I'm pretty sure that I want to take math 156, and with my other courses, only two of the sections will fit into my schedule. The two professors I have to pick from are Diniz Behn,Cecilia and Chen,Xiaojun. Neither of them are on ratemyprofessors.com. If anyone reading this has had either of these professors, I'd really like to hear about how it went.

All I can say is just don't freak out about registration. Spots usually open up by the time the semester starts. If not, you can just go to class on the first day and ask for an override.

I'm not freaking out, I just like to have everything figured out ahead of time so that I can make good choices.

I have a couple more questions.

How important are the discussions? In particular, engr 100. The problem is that the only way to take math 156 and engr 100 section 600 at the same time requires taking engr 100 dis 602 and math 156 back to back on wednesday. According to the advising center, you need a half hour to get from north campus to central campus. If the discussion isn't that important, I could leave it 20 minutes early.

What are the honors discussions all about? Can engineering students get an override to take them like they can for physics and math?

johndoe123... since i'm an intnerational applicant, my orientation doesn't even start until August 22nd. I see absoultely no point for you to freak out whatsoever.

I am worried too, but all I can do now is wait, research, research, and chat with other classmen

Why does everyone think I'm freaking out? I'm perfectly calm.

John Doe man, seriously don't freak out. It'll be allright!

:p

i was wondering how much of a disadvantage it is for international students. Because the int'l orientation starts very very very late compared to other orientations. And since quite a lot of people are from abroad, will michigan reserve some spaces for int'l kids? Quite frankly, i just think it is unfair for int'l students because simply, we have NO choice.

How frequently do int'l students get a place for the classes they register?

Is it okay to ask for an override? Will not the class get too full? What is the maximum for each class.

thanks

You can't really say 'how much' of a disadvantage it is. But for many of the big intro classes( eg: Econ 101, Calc 1 etc), spaces are reserved for Intl Orientation. You may have trouble signing up for the smaller classes such as English or some of the first year seminars.

Its absolutely fine to ask for a override. And if you are active in the first two weeks and hawk Wolverine Access(through which you register for classes), you have very high odds of ending up with the schedule you want, The limits for each class differs.

thanks gomez95! i feel more confident now.
