During my Indoc we generally made our phone call in the morning. However in some instances calls were made at night. I do not know if this is the policy now (or if it was then) but our Senior Drill Instructor made it a point at the time that you will talk to someone for 5 minutes. So if you called home and your parents didn't pick up you went to the back of the line and waited again...if at the end of the calling period you didn't get to make your call they'd pull you aside later that night and send you down to the phone. At that point they will probably be asking if there is anyone else you can call...grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc. Additionally they really are only allowed one call...5 minutes so if he/she calls their girlfriend or boyfriend...tough you-know-what...shoulda done some better IMHO.

Food:

If there isn't enough food to go around, if the DI's were ****ed off that day, then the DI's will collect it and probably eat some of it themselves and throw it away....make sure there is enough....make it somewhat healthy perhaps? A box of Clif or Powerbars would be awesome. I remember during Indoc that I destroyed Delano. I ate as much as I could at every meal b/c in that heat with all the exercise and moving around you are probably going through 4500 to 7000 calories a day (depending on the person). People that pick at their food probably are feeling down and that ain't good, and breakfast is the best meal there so tell them (mail/phone call) to eat up then. It will help them recover from the PT and get ready for the day, besides it's free and will give them energy they lack from less sleep.

quick question Davy...will the phone call mechanics change a bit this year? The Plebe Candidates were told to bring their cell phones to Indoc to be used for the 5 min call only, so there may not be a line to wait in ?

y'know i was asked something similar the other day. I'm not 100% sure...but I think a bunch of the old pay phones located throughout the barracks and 0-deck may have been removed. I haven't been to school since March...but I think with the NEX going in and some other renovations that they may have been taken out. If that is the case then it would make sense to have them use their cell phones otherwise it would be a logistical nightmare getting 300 (how many are there in actuality btw?) kids to call home on say six phones.

I heard (like 2 seconds ago cause I asked on behalf of the new parent guys) cell phones are the wave of KP future apparently. But try to stay around close to the home phone on Sunday. There are a few pay phones left & some kids might not have fully charged phones & such. Times will vary from morning till night. And the letters should be arriving soon! Start checking the mailboxes! From looking at the photos, I'd say haircuts will be coming again soon. Gotta love nubbins! :D

Edit: didn't see is2day's post till after I'd posted. One pay phone left? Yikes. And whoever has kids in 1st co, ya have some funny ones. :D

Hello everyone, My son is in 1st company and many of his photos show him and his classmates in high spirets. (Captain Morgan pose in the row boats & double thumbs up. Our Parents association has a website if you want to see some of our cut outs. USMMA NC Parents Association
Can't wait for the call on Sunday.
How many power bars should i send?
Thanks

My suggestion would be to get on IM and learn how to use it if you don't know how. I keep it logged in at work all day and at home at night. My DD can reach me almost anytime (which makes it too easy for her to ask for $ tho).

Also new KP parents - don't forget you WILL get the calls and they may be down, but as soon as they hang up, they will forget all about whatever was bothering them and be fine the next time you talk to them, while you have been stressing all week! Just grin and bear it! It's part of the 'lifestyle' of the academy. Hope you all get your calls on Sunday!
