By the way, can anybody explain the fascination behind Oprah? I never really understood that. I just saw it as a regular TV show so I must be living under a rock for the last 20 years haha

^I know that but I’m just curious how she got that power in the first place? because that’s pretty cool that she gives out cars, ipads and everything on her show becomes cool.

$ earnings over the past year
media presence
and other small things such as how many people follow them on twitter.

the reasons britney spears made the list:

britney spears is number 1 followed person on twitter, number 4 searched on google, number 5 searched on yahoo, and number 1 searched on bing. she had a tour that was the 5th highest grossing tour of all time in 2009 and was the only artist to have a song open at number 1 on the billboard top 200 list for her single “3”

Well in the 1980s, she just had a normal midday talk show, and there’s no reason that hers succeeded while others’ failed. The only thing I can think of that differentiated her early on was her story: she’s from a rather poor side of Chicago, and now (80’s) she’s a moderately successful black, female talk show host. That inspires women, and they want to know how she did it, so they’ll tune in to watch what she has to say, and eventually continue to watch for the actual content. Word of mouth gets around, and then she’s the first lady billionaire.
