Forced to study abroad?

I was wondering if there was a chance that space would run out in the NYC campus. I got accepted to the LSP. I got the notification that I was in about a week ago. I was wondering if there's a chance I'll be forced to study abroad. I'd really like to spend my first year in NYC.

I’m only a junior in high school but was wondering about this situation…
Does anybody know what percentage of LSP students are forced to study abroad their first semester/year? Shipping your students off abroad for their first college experience seems terrible.

I dont think they do that

I believe if you are accepted you go to NY, but if they intended you to go abroad that would have been included in your acceptance. That is how it has been seemingly in the oadt here on CC.

I believe that if you are an international student that they require you to do your first year abroad.
Otherwise, it is an option.
Conceivably they could run out of space in one or another campus - they might fill Paris - but I hadn’t heard of them filling NY.
There are pros and cons for all the campuses: doing freshman year abroad you have, relatively, a better range of class choices than do upper division students, since so much of the first year coursework is fixed anyway.

i think that some people have the option, and some dont.

i wish i could switch places with you, i got accepted last week and chose paris for my first year, and yesterday a lady emailed me saying i cant go since i wont be 18 by august, so im stuck in nyc :/

i probably wont end up going anyway though so thats good

Not all international students are forced to go abroad. Only those international students who are put into LSP are forced to do so. Did they tell you in your acceptance letter/email that you have to go abroad? If not then I doubt that they will make you do so.

Even if they do make you go abroad, it is still possible to get a place in NYC. I know a couple people who called up or emailed admissions requesting not to go abroad and got what they wanted. Hope this helps.

On the other hand, I remember reading last year someone from LSP wanted to stay in NYC but there were no more places left in NYC. So the sooner you make your request, the better. Wherever that might be.

I was told in my email today that I have to go to Paris. I have nothing against Paris in fact I love it there, but I want to make friends on the campus I’d be spending the next three years at during my Freshman year. I probably won’t be attending NYU because I don’t anticipate getting enough money and even if I did there are other schools that are putting in much more…I don’t know, effort I guess to get me to come. Also since I was planning on double majoring and studying a new language the rigid curriculum would not be beneficial.

I feel very weird about this. Ah well, many more schools left to hear from.

I just got accepted today, and I only got Paris, London, Florence and Shanghai as options. NY was not an option.
I am an international student though, so that may have something to with it

It isn’t necessarily whether you’re an international student or not. It depends on how strong/weak your application was. This is going to sound harsh, but the kids who do not get an option to be in NY typically weren’t as strong as the kids who do. You won’t be forced to go abroad if you don’t commit soon enough.
